OVERVIEW

The Community Outreach Coordinator will be an integral member of The Next IT Girl to create and execute services through community-based outreach. The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the planning, marketing, and delivery of community program-based activities and events to increase representation of the organization in local chapter cities.


Through outreach activities the Community Outreach Coordinator will identify new community engagement opportunities, build relationships with community partners, and employers, and identify referrals of those who would benefit from our representation. This position requires evening and weekend work as frequent as 2-3 times a week.

GOALS
  1. Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage with local communities, schools, and organizations within our chapter cities of Atlanta, Charleston, and Indianapolis
  2. Establish and maintain partnerships with schools, community organizations, and industry stakeholders to enhance program visibility and impact.
SPECIFICATIONS

Working with the Executive Director, Chapter Leads, and Program Director, you will provide support and expertise on opportunities to enhance the organization with visibility and impact across our chapter cities.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, implement and manage education projects and community outreach activities to teach the students, community, and stakeholders about the importance of technology
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to build relationships and establish dialogue with the community
  • Supports the Executive Director in developing relationships with external stakeholders and other entities in an effort to build TNIG brand
  • Develops and implements a direct referral system that provides community agencies and organizations a mechanism for referring communities who may have technology education concerns
  • Develops promotional opportunities for the dissemination of The Next IT Girl news and events
  • Works closely to launch new initiatives with appropriate internal and external stakeholders
  • Conducts appropriate research and makes recommendations regarding appropriate external partnerships
  • Develops linkages and relationships that enhance the quality of engagement with youth and the local communities, such as colleges, churches, non-profits, social organizations and associations
  • Prepares monthly events and reports on engagement activities and experiential events
  • Identifies opportunities to insert TNIG in existing community events
  • Develops and maintains a system for managing and responding to community needs, issues, and priorities
  • Occasional travel pertaining to outreach efforts


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (education, communications, social work, etc.).
  • Previous experience in community outreach or program coordination.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with the local community and educational landscape.
  • Passion for promoting diversity and inclusion in the technology field.
  • Adapt at using various applications including databases, spreadsheets, report writing, project management, operation platforms, word processing, and presentation creation/editing including office software such as Google Suite.
  • Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to ensure the successful planning, execution, and evaluation of technology education initiatives.
  • Monitor program budgets, timelines, and outcomes, making adjustments as needed to meet objectives.

Description

The Next IT Girl helps close the gender and racial gap by providing technical workshops, mentorship, and career readiness for young women of color ages 8-22 who are interested in pursuing a technology career. The Next IT Girl is a non profit organization mission to educate, mentor, and advance young women of color to pursue technology careers. We are bridging the gap of race and gender to increase the representation in the tech industry. We provide technical resources and programs to support technology exposure for underrepresented girls of color to learn technology.
