The Red Cross San Bernardino County Chapter is in need of COVID-19 Shelter Service Associate temp positions. The Shelter Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season . Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and provide assistance for disaster clients. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter. Key Responsibilities: Following worker safety procedures for working in a COVID environment Embodying the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross in their work with clients, disaster responders, and partners Providing excellent client service and support the daily maintenance of the shelter operation at the direction of the assigned Shelter Supervisor Using the Shift Tool during the disaster event to report availability and schedule shelter shifts Completing the required virtual self-paced training (3 hours of training total) Time Commitment: Local: Minimum of 5 days working 4-, 6- or 12-hour shifts Beyond region: Minimum of 14 days working 8 or 12 hour shifts Hurricane/Wildfire Season 2021 Required Qualifications: Ability to build appropriate and effective relationships with co-workers and shelter residents. Ability to support and correct performance, manage conflict and ask for help early on so that workflow and service delivery does not impact shelter residents or the shelter community. Demonstrates clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communication. Lift / carry 20 lbs. multiple times/shift. Stand and or sit for two-hour periods and walk for two miles during a shift. Walk on uneven terrain. Work outdoors in inclement weather, extreme heat and/or humidity and/or extreme cold. Climb two or more flights of stairs. Speak clearly on phone and in person. Work for long periods on the computer and/or reading small print and/or writing. Licensed healthcare professionals are needed! Are you a licensed healthcare professional? If so, we also have a high need for health care workers to provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents. With predictions for a very active hurricane and wildfire season, disaster victims need your expert care and comfort. Training is free and CE credit is available. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10 consecutive days, with shifts of 8 or 12 hours each (we'll cover travel, food, and accommodations) OR stay local. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4, 8 or 12 hours each. Licensed Required: RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. It’s the hardest job you will ever love! Purpose: Disaster Health Services (DHS) Supervisor (SV) is a TEMPORARY POSITION assigned to work in person before, during, and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Disaster Health Services responders to provide health services care to shelter clients. This role will act as the liaison from the Disaster Health Services team to the shelter manager. Advocacy for client needs is a primary purpose of this role. Key Responsibilities: Disaster Health Services Supervisor (IDC/DHS/SV). Lead team of licensed healthcare professionals Act as liaison for DHS team with the shelter manager Assist DHS service associates with documentation and data gathering (including C-MIST interview). Communicate access and functional needs of clients to shelter manager Provide hands-on care as necessary, including assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, health assessments, health education, and determination that a higher level of care is needed for the client Observation and health screening for COVID-19 like illness for all shelter clients daily Lead the management of a shelter isolation care area. Complete required virtual self-paced and instructor-led training for the position (29 hours total) Purpose: Disaster Health Services (DHS) Service Associate (SA) is a TEMPORARY POSITION assigned to work in person before, during, and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed. Key Responsibilities: Disaster Health Services Service Associate (IDC/DHS/SA). Provide hands-on care for shelter clients to include but not limited to assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, assistance with functional needs. Provide health education, health assessments, and determination if a higher level of care is needed. Assist clients to replace medications, durable medical equipment, or consumable medical supplies. Advocate for client needs with Disaster Health Services supervisor. Support maternal and child needs as necessary. Complete required virtual self-paced and instructor-led training required for the position (9 hours total). Service of the armed forces : Presenter - 29 Palms Inform and educate Red Cross partners, military members and their families by conducting briefings at a variety of community venues. The Red Cross San Bernardino County Chapter is in need of Disaster Duty Officers now! Are you RETIRED and a former Law Enforcement or a Fighter Fighter? Disaster duty officers are a lifeline to temporary assistance during a disaster. Volunteer Duty Officers are responsible for dispatching Red Cross volunteers to meet with families impacted by home fires and other disasters so they can provide temporary relief such as a safe place to stay, food, and clothing. Volunteers should be comfortable using online systems and must have access to a cell phone and computer. The DAT Duty Officer’s position is unique in that it does not require direct face-to-face interaction with clients. As such, DAT Duty Officers must be proficient in multiple forms of communication, to include: * Email; * Text message; * Telephone; * Other technology and communications platforms. They must also be proficient in (or willing to learn) Red Cross systems. Responsibilities: Leadership: 1. May determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond via DAT. 2. Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of the event to direct the DAT response. 3. Works with on-scene DAT leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance. 4. Support and train new Duty Officers. Functional: 1. Dispatch DAT members and monitor the response to ensure appropriate resources are made available. 2. Activate Disaster Health Services, Disaster Mental Health, and Disaster Spiritual Care, Public Affairs when requested. 3. Documents incoming disaster notification and creates & verifies events in RC View, when applicable. 4. Where appropriate, maintains access to and ability to use the Client Assistance System (CAS) to enter case data and load CACs. 5. May be required to monitor activity across multiple DAT responses. 6. Notify Chapter and Regional staff of significant events, and contribute to an Initial Incident Report, when appropriate. 7. Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings as required by Chapter/Region. As such, DAT Duty Officers must be proficient in multiple forms of communication, to include: * Email; * Text message; * Telephone; * Other technology and communications platforms. They must also be proficient in (or willing to learn) Red Cross systems, including * Volunteer Connection; * RC View DAT Dispatch or other event management system; * The Exchange; * EDGE. Qualifications: Demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the American Red Cross. Ability to remotely monitor and track details of DAT responses Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in complex and stressful situations.
