The Red Cross San Bernardino County Chapter is in need of COVID-19 Shelter Service Associate temp positions. The Shelter Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season . Shelter Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and provide assistance for disaster clients. Shelter Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter. Key Responsibilities: Following worker safety procedures for working in a COVID environment Embodying the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross in their work with clients, disaster responders, and partners Providing excellent client service and support the daily maintenance of the shelter operation at the direction of the assigned Shelter Supervisor Using the Shift Tool during the disaster event to report availability and schedule shelter shifts Completing the required virtual self-paced training (3 hours of training total) Time Commitment: Local: Minimum of 5 days working 4-, 6- or 12-hour shifts Beyond region: Minimum of 14 days working 8 or 12 hour shifts Hurricane/Wildfire Season 2021 Required Qualifications: Ability to build appropriate and effective relationships with co-workers and shelter residents. Ability to support and correct performance, manage conflict and ask for help early on so that workflow and service delivery does not impact shelter residents or the shelter community. Demonstrates clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communication. Lift / carry 20 lbs. multiple times/shift. Stand and or sit for two-hour periods and walk for two miles during a shift. Walk on uneven terrain. Work outdoors in inclement weather, extreme heat and/or humidity and/or extreme cold. Climb two or more flights of stairs. Speak clearly on phone and in person. Work for long periods on the computer and/or reading small print and/or writing. Drive-in daytime and at night Minimum 18 years of age Willing and able to volunteer in person in a COVID -19 disaster shelter before, during, and/or after a disaster event Availability to sign up for shifts on consecutive days (shifts maybe 4, 8, or 12 hours long) Willing to complete 3 hours of virtual self-paced training required for the position We Provied all trainings! Licensed healthcare professionals are needed! Are you a licensed healthcare professional? If so, we also have a high need for health care workers to provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents. With predictions for a very active hurricane and wildfire season, disaster victims need your expert care and comfort. Training is free and CE credit is available. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10 consecutive days, with shifts of 8 or 12 hours each (we'll cover travel, food, and accommodations) OR stay local. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4, 8 or 12 hours each. Licensed Required: RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. It’s the hardest job you will ever love! Purpose: Disaster Health Services (DHS) Supervisor (SV) is a TEMPORARY POSITION assigned to work in person before, during, and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Disaster Health Services responders to provide health services care to shelter clients. This role will act as the liaison from the Disaster Health Services team to the shelter manager. Advocacy for client needs is a primary purpose of this role. Key Responsibilities: Disaster Health Services Supervisor (IDC/DHS/SV). Lead team of licensed healthcare professionals Act as liaison for DHS team with the shelter manager Assist DHS service associates with documentation and data gathering (including C-MIST interview). Communicate access and functional needs of clients to shelter manager Provide hands-on care as necessary, including assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, health assessments, health education, and determination that a higher level of care is needed for the client Observation and health screening for COVID-19 like illness for all shelter clients daily Lead the management of a shelter isolation care area. Complete required virtual self-paced and instructor-led training for the position (29 hours total) Purpose: Disaster Health Services (DHS) Service Associate (SA) is a TEMPORARY POSITION assigned to work in person before, during, and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed. Key Responsibilities: Disaster Health Services Service Associate (IDC/DHS/SA). Provide hands-on care for shelter clients to include but not limited to assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, assistance with functional needs. Provide health education, health assessments, and determination if a higher level of care is needed. Assist clients to replace medications, durable medical equipment, or consumable medical supplies. Advocate for client needs with Disaster Health Services supervisor. Support maternal and child needs as necessary. Complete required virtual self-paced and instructor-led training required for the position (9 hours total). Purpose: This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department. Each year, the Red Cross responds to an average of more than 60,000 disasters, the vast majority of which are home fires. With our coalition partners, we are working to help reduce death and injuries from home fires in high-risk communities. With your participation, we have the opportunity to make a difference in our communities and save lives tragically lost due to home fires. The Home Fire Campaign aims to save lives by installing smoke alarms and educating residents about home fire risk by providing home-safety checklists and plans in vulnerable neighborhoods. The purpose of this position is to implement Home Fire Campaign programming. Depending on the local situation, work may be done virtually or in-person. Key Responsibilities: The Preparedness Division provides appropriate preparedness programming within a community to assist community members to prepare for home fires and other disasters. This position is responsible for the tasks involved to implement the preparedness program including: Support the annual preparedness goals, Regional Disaster Officer (RDO) objectives, and regional/chapter plan for preparedness programming through participation in meetings, projects, and local preparedness activities; Execute assigned projects and local preparedness activities according to the Home Fire Campaign activities (canvassing, fire prevention and safety education, smoke alarm installation, documentation, etc.) you are trained to do. Complete tasks such as implementing preparedness activities, meeting with partners to build relationships, conducting inventory, and procuring or receiving necessary preparedness supplies. Qualifications: Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and submission of vaccine status and supporting documentation in Volunteer Connection if participating in in-person activities and/or performing work in a Red Cross facility. RFL Instructors provide training in their divisions/regions to build capacity and knowledge around International Services and the global Red Cross Red Crescent mission. They are responsible for training Red Cross paid and volunteer staff in International Services related course content so that services can be provided in their local communities. Key Responsibilities: Facilitate International Services courses, primarily focusing in the RFL Caseworker course, but including the RFL Outreach workshop, Fundamental Principles or other available International Services courses Teach the RFL Casework Course at least once a year, supporting your region and if possible neighboring regions. Updating training records in learning management system Stay up-to-date on Restoring Family Links program updates through participation in International Services conference calls and by receiving program email updates. Qualifications: Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and submission of vaccine status and supporting documentation in Volunteer Connection if participating in in-person activities Be a qualified instructor in another Red Cross course or have successfully completed the Basic Instructor Fundamentals Course or Instructor Specialty Course (Required) Be certified as a Restoring Family Links instructor by RFL Master Instructor (Required) Have strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation and facilitation skills (Required) Be available to teach the RFL Instructor Course when needed (Required) Be willing to keep up-to-date on RFL program updates through participation in RFL conference calls and email updates (Required) Have experience with RFL work in some capacity (casework, casework supervision, outreach/promotion of RFL activities, training) (Preferred) Have experience managing training events and an instructor roster (Preferred) Training: We provide all the training!
