This program is perfect for your busy schedule; you need only respond when you have time to help. Having a personal vehicle can be useful, but is not required. SCES requires volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and to have received a booster if eligible. Digital communication is essential nowadays! We log in for many interactions that used to happen in person, such as a doctor's visit or a class at the senior center. Help an older adult learn to use an internet-enabled device. Our volunteers may install internet, deliver a tablet, and assist with set up and how-to on applications, including email or video-conferencing software. SCES Technology Coach volunteers follow COVID-19 protocol during an initial home visit; after that, additional help is over the phone. SCES requires volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and to have received a booster if eligible. Help give a senior or disabled person emotional strength to manage their health care appointments. Be there to assuage concerns about seeing the doctor and help keep track of their medical issues. You will be matched one-to-one with a participant in our community-based CONNECT program for people with behavioral health hurdles to improve their access to care Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services requires staff and volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and to have received a booster. Notes: This volunteer role requires 4-hour blocks of time during weekday business hours to attend medical appointments. At this time, we are looking for a male volunteer, based on the preference of a client.

Do you speak Bulgarian? Our Money Management volunteer program is looking for someone who translate between Bulgarian and English. If you'd like to be a Money Management volunteer, all the better! More about this program: Make a difference in the life of an older neighbor in Somerville or Cambridge by enabling them to continue to live independently. Assist one of our clients by making sure the bills are paid on time. This volunteer position is primarily responsible for helping a client organize and pay bills, balance the check book, and develop a household budget so they can live within their means. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy helping older adults and have 2-4 hours per month to make home visits. The flexible scheduling is great for those with daytime commitments. Time: The two to four hours a month can be scheduled based on your availability. We're looking for volunteers who plan to stay with the program for at least a year. Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services requires staff and volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and to have received a booster. Volunteers accompany seniors to medical appointments (in a taxi, other community transportation, or volunteer's vehicle). We provide training, additional liability insurance, and a small travel stipend. We're looking for volunteers with sensitivity to elders, reliability, and good communication abilities. Patience with waiting for arranged transportation and dealing with anxious or frail elders is a must! Time Commitment: We request that volunteers provide us with a weekday when they could go to appointments. When an opportunity arises, we contact you to see if you are available that day. A typical trip is two to four hours, but we'll request that you have full availability on the day that you accept a trip. We’re looking for volunteers who can plan to stay with the program for at least a year.
