Role: Accompany older adults to medical appointments (in a taxi, other community transportation, or your own vehicle). Our ideal Escort volunteer is compassionate, reliable, and communicative. How it works: When we receive a Medical Escort request, we email our Escort volunteers with the relevant details, including date, time, appointment location, and caller’s neighborhood. If you’re available, just reply, and we put you in contact with the older adult. A trip may be round trip (to the appointment and back) or pickup only (at the conclusion of the visit). Schedule and Commitment: Often, trips require two to four hours of a volunteer’s time. Importantly, this role requires availability on weekdays during regular business hours. We’re looking for volunteers who can plan to stay with the program for at least a year. Fine Print: A small travel stipend is available per trip. Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services requires staff and volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and to have received a booster. Other requirements: It’s required to complete our volunteer application.
