Volunteers accompany seniors to medical appointments (in a taxi, other community
transportation, or volunteer's vehicle). We provide training, additional liability insurance, and a small travel stipend.
We're looking for volunteers with sensitivity to elders, reliability, and good communication abilities. Patience with waiting for arranged transportation and dealing with anxious or frail elders is a must!
Time Commitment: We request that volunteers provide us with a weekday when they could go to appointments. When an opportunity arises, we contact you to see if you are available that day. A typical trip is two to four hours, but we'll request that you have full availability on the day that you accept a trip.
We’re looking for volunteers who can plan to stay with the program for at least a year.
Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services requires staff and volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and to have received a booster.
