We do this by connecting consumers and producers; supporting equitable distribution of food resources; removing barriers to access; including stakeholders in decision making; providing food justice education and advocacy; and engaging with community partners. As a Farmers Market Champion Volunteer, (in partnership with Hunger Free America - AmeriCorps Senior 55+ Volunteer Program), you will assist in ensuring markets are operating smoothly and efficiently. The support given will foster a thriving local food system that is necessary to connect our small local producers and consumers. This is an in-person role, weekends & holidays, markets typically run 9a - 2p, May - October. farmers market location sites available in St. Lawrence County (Canton, Gouverneur, Potsdam, Massena). Responsibilities can include market setup and breakdown including booth and signage; operating and educating about the farmers market token system; providing customer and vendor support; and participating in outreach activities to raise awareness about the farmers markets. Qualifications include a passion for local food system and community building, effective communication skills, basic technology skills to operate the token system, ability to lift and move market equipment (totes, signs, tent, table) is a plus. As a Volunteer Recruitment Volunteer, (in partnership with Hunger Free America - AmeriCorps Senior 55+ Volunteer Program), you will help recruit and schedule individual and group volunteers for our soup kitchen and food pantry. This is a virtual role, averaging 12 hours per week, hours can be flexible. However, availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays would be helpful. The preferred length of commitment is 2 months. Duties include: - Responsible for the overall recruitment of Broadway Community volunteers; - Effectively utilize Broadway Community’s volunteer management system; - Recruit and schedule corporate volunteer groups; - Ensure volunteers are effectively recruited, shepherded through application and screening processes, appropriately matched, and followed up with consistently. Our vision at Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is that no one goes hungry in Los Angeles County. The Food Bank’s volunteer department engages more than 15,000 volunteers annually. The Food Bank’s Home Delivery Program Volunteer delivers food directly to the homes of clients. The program aims to enroll over 8,000 existing and new clients by the end of the year. As a Los Angeles Regional Food Bank (in partnership with Hunger Free America - Americorps Senior Volunteer Program), Home Deliver Program Outreach Volunteer, you will travel to different food distributions across Los Angeles to promote this program to clients and assist them with the enrollment process. Helpful skills are being detail-oriented, basic Spanish language skills, basic computer skills to be able to operate a tablet and customer service. Hours are 4-5 hours a week for 6 months. Hours are flexible and can be determined with volunteer feedback.
