Compeer Match Volunteer

Flexible Schedule | Westlake, OH 44145

Needed: Compeer Match Volunteers. We are looking for adult men and women that can spend 1 hour per week , one to one, with a same gender adult who is managing mental health issues. Volunteers call their matches, meet their matches in agreed upon public places, and are welcome to attend the many monthly Compeer Events listed on the Compeer Event Calander. Volunteers do not need a background or an education in mental health. Volunteers are trained by Compeer Staff. Volunteers receive on going support and guidance from Compeer Staff. Volunteers are not required to pay for anyone but themselves for all activities. Volunteers and their Matches are responsible only for their own transportation. Compeer at Far West Center is a 23 year old program and a branch of Compeer, Inc. Please check out: www.compeer.org & www.farwestcenter.com . Compeer focuses on friendship as a healing part of the recovery process. Compeer aims to decrease isolation. Compeer focus on the optimistic and active part of rejoining the community.

The Compeer Program in Westlake, Oh. is looking for adult volunteers that are compassionate and patient. A Volunteer is screened, trained and informed about mental illness and the isolation that often goes with it. Volunteers are matched one-to-one with a mental health consumer. Each match is encouraged to participate in phone calls and a few hours of social activity each month. The Compeer Program provides a quarterly schedule listing a weekly activity facilitated and supervised by Compeer staff. The matches can participate in these. COMPEER Volunteers that are matched with a same gender adult who is recovering from mental illness make a positive difference in the recovery process. COMPEER Volunteers are asked to provide at minimum 4 hours of support per month by making phone calls, emailing, &/or an outing. COMPEER Volunteers make their own schedules!! COMPEER asks volunteers for a 1 year commitment , but a volunteer can continue after that year. ** During CDC Covid-19 precautions Virtual , phone, and emailing are recommended for Compeer interactions and activities. Compeer offers weekly Compeer Game Night on Zoom each Tuesday and Art on Zoom.

The Compeer Program is part of the Far West Center in Westlake, OH. Far West Center provides many mental health services. Our Compeer Program assists mental health consumers of Cuyahoga County.
