Mission Statement

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation (AHLF) was established as a non-profit corporation in 1990 to conserve, restore and enhance the environmental features of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, marsh, wetlands, and watershed areas. The AHLF operates the lovely Lagoon Discovery Center at 1580 Cannon Road in Carlsbad, where they holds numerous environmental educational programming every year.


The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation's objective is to:

-Advocate for the lagoon, promoting and assuring future lagoon vitality

-Promote balanced recreational and commercial uses of the lagoon and wetlands

-Provide strong support for public access, trails and recreational opportunities

-Develop and promote, through The Lagoon Discovery Center, educational programs to enhance community and visitor awareness and understanding of water resource and watershed-related environmental issues.

While they are a lovely group of young, energetic, well-educated individuals, they have not yet mastered the art of working with volunteers. This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for youths looking to fulfill community service hours.
