You choose the distance you're willing to travel - whether across town or across the country - and Families to Freedom handles the rest. Pick-up the survivor from a safe public location and drive them to a crisis center or family home far away. Volunteer safety is our #1 priority! This mission is important and only possible with YOU as our volunteer driver. We provide and install child car seats for those traveling with children. We reimburse for the cost of gas and tolls (or use our vehicle). Not sure you'll be up for a trip when one comes along? Take a pass with no pressure from us. We receive calls for help daily and usually during normal business hours. This role is great for volunteers who need community services hours such as with college classes or church service projects. Here at Families to Freedom we are dependant on volunteer drivers to carry out our mission statement to "Transport victims of domestic abuse to safety." We urgently need amazing people like you to drive victims to safety. We receive calls from victims every day, but we are unable to meet every need without your help! Volunteer drivers pick up victims at a safe public location and bring them a family or friend home far away or to a domestic violence shelter in Houston and surrounding areas. Volunteer safety is our #1 priority and we have strict protocols to keep you safe. Travel costs are paid for by the organization including: food, lodging, tolls and gas. You also have the option to use one of our company vehicles for travel.You have the freedom to decide how far you are able to drive: across town or beyond the Texas border. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS WHO: + Ages 21+ + Have a good driving record + Can pass a criminal background check + Have a smartphone + Have time to drive survivors of domestic violence from a safe pickup place in North Texas to an emergency shelter or to a family home far away. HOW FAR DO VOLUNTEERS DRIVE? + DFW Road Warrior - Drive a new survivor to a domestic violence shelter, all within the DFW Metroplex. Weekdays only- daytime is most common. + North Texas Road Warrior - Drive a new survivor to a domestic violence shelter 1 to 2 hours from the Dallas area. Weekdays- daytime is most common. + Multi-State Road Warrior - Drive a new survivor to another state; this may take several hours or a few days, depending on the destination. Weekends, weekdays, holidays- whenever you're able! INTERESTED YET? KEEP READING... + You always choose to accept or decline a drive - No pressure! Uplift neighbors from the South Side of Dallas as a Volunteer Driver with Families to Freedom! Be someone's hero by driving them to safety after abuse. We get calls for service everyday from survivors trying to restart life after violence, but we need more volunteer drivers to keep up with the demand. We need a dedicated person like you! Assist victims making their break from abuser by driving them to safety! You choose the distance you're willing to travel - whether across the metroplex or across the country - and Families to Freedom handles the rest. You just need to be 21+, have a good driving record, pass a background check, and a heart to help. We ONLY allow our volunteers to pick-up survivors in a safe public place such as a retail store, shelter, hospital, hotel lobby or police station. Volunteer safety is our #1 priority. There is no contact with an abuser. Transporting a survivor traveling with children? We prepare the car seat for you. Worried about the cost of gas, tolls, food and lodging? We pay it. Don't want to use your personal car? Use one of ours. Not sure you'll be up for a trip when one comes along? Decline any drive you wish with no pressure from us.
