We're looking for people hoping to build on the foundational knowledge they have by providing hands-on experience. For example, you would have general construction skills that you'd use to help us build sets for the shows or be starting on your sound design education and looking for practical experience along the way. This would be the perfect position for someone early in their theatrical career or looking to fill their free time outside of their regular job. We can provide opportunities in lighting, sound, set, props, and streaming. The goal is that we move towards a long term working relationship. The hours can accommodate other work schedules as work calls are usually 2pm-5pm and tech week rehearsals are usually 5pm-8:30pm. Please contact us at your soonest convenience if interested.

BYT is looking for dedicated individuals to add to our pool of Costume Designers and to design Nemo for our Fall Season. Nemo is scheduled to run in November. We can begin to train immediately, but we are really looking for a designer who would be willing to take on a show after learning for a season. For Nemo specifically, start date would be late September and you could start pulling costume on 9/30. Costume parade is scheduled for 11/5 with Tech week 11/12-11/14. Performances are 11/15-11/17 and 11/23-11/24. Volunteers who can sew well on machine and/or by hand are an asset, especially if you are looking for an organization with which you will make a long-term, regular commitment. If you are interested in sewing and want to design costumes and alter, and repair costumes for youth in plays, please send me an email. **To be clear, we avoid building costumes from scratch.** We pull from stock and alter them to fit the actor, so there will not be many opportunities to create entire costumes by hand. Some of our actors have sensory support needs, but we will communicate those ahead of time. We are an inclusive theatre where everyone gets a part so our casts are very diverse. Our established designers will train and mentor upcoming Costume Designers in conjunction with Support provided by the Costume Shop Manager and related staff. Costume Designers typically spend 50-100 hours per show designing, fitting, altering, mending, cleaning, and organizing costumes, all under the creative direction of the show's director and in partnership with the rest of the creative design team. As we are a community theatre, a stipend is available for $15 per costume/actor with a minimum of $450 and a maximum of $750 through our BYT Foundation. We costume 11 shows a year, making this one of our areas of greatest need. Costuming is very important to our program; costumes help the participants find their characters and perform with self-confidence--and, of course, dressing up is just plain fun!

The set designer works closely with the director to create a look that conveys the director's vision while also accommodating the needs of the space and the cast. Once the design is created, staff are available to help with construction of the set. The Bellevue Youth Theatre is an arena black-box theatre, which allows for some very unique design opportunities and experiences. Our casts are made up of children from the community, mostly ranging in age from 8-17 years old, although we accept all ages. Our set designs need to account for casts of about 30-40 actors, some in wheelchairs. We run 11 shows a year, with varying process lengths. We are looking for theatre designers with set construction experience. Please contact us at your soonest convenience to learn more!

How would you like to teach dance to children? Our theatre puts on 11 shows a year with casts of approximately 50 people. Most of the actors range between the ages of 8-17. Everyone who auditions gets a part, so we have to teach the choreography to a wide variety of abilities. It is important to us that everyone feels valued and is able to perform their dances. We are looking for fun, energetic people who can help our choreographers teach moves that cater to the skills of the group. Through experience, Assistant Choreographers can advance to taking on creating the dances for future shows. If you're interested in this, please contact us for details and we will try to tailor the position to your schedule, especially for those individuals who think they might like to make a long-term (more than one season) commitment to BYT. Please contact us to learn about the possibilities!

Do you have experience lighting a play? Want to test your skills in the only arena black-box theatre in the nation? We are looking for someone with practical experience who has or is getting an education in technical theatre. They will work closely with one of our current designer(s) for training purposes and begin design on our shows as their schedule allows. The hours are flexible during the actual design phase, but become more structured as we get closer to performance. Designers work approximately 50-75 hours per show, occurring over the course of 6 weeks (for the first show of the season) and up to 3 months (for the last show of the season). It's better if you're a proficient programmer, because our shows perform back-to-back, so there's only about a week or two where you'll be able to play in the space. Some information about the space: Our board is an ETC Element. Most of the lights are conventional Source 4s, in addition to 12 SeaChanger units, 4 moving lights, and roughly 36 fresnels in inventory. The main space is an approximately 45' diameter circle that is typically set up either in the round or with a modified thrust. Grid height is 20’ feet and is accessible via perimeter catwalks or a genie lift and DMX is distributed via quasi-permanent addressable dimmer bars throughout the grid. As we are a community theatre, our foundation offers a $500 stipend for this role. Please contact us if interested!
