Costume Shop

Bellevue Youth Theatre is in need of dedicated individuals to add to our pool of Costume Designers. We can begin to train immediately, but we are really looking for designers who would be willing to take on a show after learning for a season. Volunteers who can sew well on machine and/or by hand are an asset, especially if you are looking for an organization with which you will make a long-term, regular commitment.

If you are interested in sewing and want to design costumes and alter, and repair costumes for youth in plays, please send me an email. **To be clear, we do not build costumes from scratch.** We pull from stock and alter them to fit the actor, so there will not be many opportunities to create entire costumes by hand.

Our established designers will train and mentor upcoming Costume Designers in conjunction with training provided by the Costume Shop Manager and related staff. Costume Designers typically spend 75+ hours/show designing, fitting, altering, mending, cleaning, and organizing costumes, all under the creative direction of the show's director and in partnership with the rest of the creative design team. Most designers will work 50-100 hours in a 3-month season. As we are a community theatre, a stipend is available for $10 a costume/actor with a minimum of $300.

We costume 11 shows a year, making this one of our areas of greatest need. Costuming is very important to our program; costumes help the participants find their characters and perform with self-confidence--and, of course, dressing up is just plain fun! Come be a part of the magic!

Please contact us to set up a meeting with Dionne Wardrop, the Volunteer Program Coordinator, to see how you can help out!
