Our volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help. Some interact directly with patients and families. Others prefer to work behind the scenes in the office setting. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform. THE TASKS OF VOLUNTEERS MAY INCLUDE: Helping with office support tasks at the agency Running errands for patients and families Staying with patients so family members can get a much-needed rest Reading, or providing a comforting touch Playing or singing soothing music to patients Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours Providing a friendly visit to lift a patient's spirits Providing special veteran volunteer support to patients who are veterans * We suggest volunteers wait a minimum of one year following the death of a loved one to volunteer. This allows adequate time to make appropriate adjustments after a significant personal loss. Heartland Hospice is seeking caring individuals to offer support and companionship to patients and families. Opportunities include friendly phone visits from your home. We are seeking veteran volunteers for the vets-to-vets program. Limited in-person assignments are also given with proper protocols. Orientation and training provided. Please contact Joanna Zigerell (717)240-0018, email: joanna.zigerell@heartlandhospice.com

No one understands the questions and concerns of a U.S. military veteran more than a fellow veteran or active duty personnel. Our Vets-to-Vets Volunteer program pairs patients with volunteers of similar backgrounds to meet with and assist in the care of U.S. military veteran patients. Trust often develops faster between people who have common life experiences and camaraderie. Are you a U.S. Military veteran who can give of your time to provide support to fellow veterans? We'd love you to join our team. Please contact Joanna Zigerell (717)240-0018, joanna.zigerell@heartlandhospice.com

Veterans at the end of life connect with other veterans. Our team is committed to giving personalized care and honor to our US military veterans. Would you enjoy hearing the stories of WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, and other wartime and peacetime eras? We pair veterans with veterans within our volunteer program. Some provide consistent companionship and support, some assist with events and ceremonies to honor military veterans. Heartland Hospice follows CDC guidelines with regard to COVID-19 precautions. Please contact Joanna Zigerell (717)240-0018, joanna.zigerell@heartlandhospice.com
