Heartland Hospice - York, Pa

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 26 people are interested

Heartland Hospice is looking for caring, dependable adults to visit with our terminally ill patients and their families on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. You have the choice of focusing your efforts as a Friendly Visitor, Administrative Volunteer, and/or Vigil Volunteer. Your training would then be tailored to your current area of interest.
Our Friendly Visitors visit patients and their families in their home or facility setting to provide companionship, socialization, assistance around the home, pet therapy visits, and providing respite for the loved one. The gift of 'being present' during a caring visit is a vital part of the Hospice concept and our volunteers are a valuable part of our hospice team. Each volunteer brings their own special gifts to their volunteer efforts which sometimes include: listening, reading, activities, conversing, gentle touch, gift of presence, activities, singing at bedside, and companionship. Examples of special interest areas include: musicians who can play/sing gently at the bedside, someone with a Certified Pet Therapy Dog for visitation, or facilitating life story telling opportunities with patients while creating legacy booklets. Administrative Volunteers choose in office opportunities which may include answering/making telephone calls, filing, bulletin board creations, attending Health Fairs, and engaging with special projects from our East York location. Vigil Volunteers share their caring presence by companioning alongside patients and their families in the last days of life. We offer flexible scheduling for training to meet each volunteer's needs and value the special gifts that each volunteer brings with them to share with our Hospice Program. If you are looking to commit to a program that will provide flexible scheduling opportunities to share your gifts with others in need, Heartland Hospice, is that program. Call Joan Lobach, Volunteer Coordinator, who would love to speak with you. Call 717-840-1002 or email her at joan.lobach@hcr-ManorCare.com.
