about the family support committee The backbone of the relationship between a family and a Habitat affiliate is the Family Support committee. A strong committee helps diminish the cycle of poverty by serving as a resource to families in the process of becoming homeowners. The Family Support committee has a unique responsibility that requires patience, knowledge and wisdom. To be inclusive to prospective homeowners who do not speak English as a first language, we would like to offer support that can accommodate their needs. The committee specifically works with families through: * Sweat equity * Homeownership education * Adjustment to new responsibilities * Continued partnership qualifications * Good listeners and relationship builders * Sensitive to and experienced with other issues that may result from living with a limited income (such as a lack of education, improper nutrition and health care, debt, relationship strains, low self-esteem, anxiety, frustration). * Ability to be organized and communicate well with families in program and Habitat staff

Who are we? Habitat ReStores are reuse stores operated by New Castle County Habitat for Humanity. ReStores accept donations and sell a constantly changing inventory of diverse, high-quality merchandise to the public at a fraction of the retail price, while diverting reusable household items and building materials from area landfills. Sales of donated items help Habitat for Humanity partner with local families to build, rehabilitate and repair safe and affordable homes in your community and around the world - a good deal for you, your community and the environment. Together, we can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future while creating stronger neighborhoods. We are looking for volunteers who are able and willing to volunteer at our Wilmington and Middletown ReStores. Volunteers help with unloading and processing donations, pricing items, assisting customers, building product displays and rearranging items around the store. It's also a great opportunity for you to meet new people, have fun, and work toward our mission of affordable housing for all! We offer shifts Tuesday-Saturday, and are flexible to you and your availability! We are always in need of recurring volunteers, or Regulars! Please follow up in your inquiry if this would be of interest to you. To volunteer or for more information, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@habitatncc.org or 302-652-0365 ext 107 or directly sign up at https://habitat-for-humanity-of-new-castle.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/.
