Do people love your dog, and does your dog love people? Would you love to have a way to spend more time with your dog, while bringing joy to others? You and your beloved pet may just be perfect candidates to visit seniors, who can no longer care for a pet themselves. Hospice of Michigan is seeking people who are willing to take their own gentle and well-behaved dogs on visits to hospice patients throughout Macomb county and surrounding areas. Pets must be a minimum of one year old to be considered, current on their veterinary shots, and must be "interviewed" by our staff, and do NOT have to be certified therapy dogs. Quality of care is one of the cornerstones of our mission - a mission that could not be accomplished without the many 'helping hands' AND 'helping paws' of our volunteers. Visits take place in patients' own homes, as well as nursing homes, assisted living, memory care, group homes, hospitals. Our hospice volunteers have shared that they find their work to be personally gratifying and meaningful, and we hope that you will share in this experience. Volunteers with availability during weekday mornings and afternoons are needed most, and we ask that our volunteers make at least a one year commitment to our organization. Volunteers will be provided with ongoing one-on-one staff support throughout their service with us, and will be invited to ongoing education opportunities, and appreciation events. Our volunteers must complete an online application, interview, background checks, an orientation class, fingerprinting, and annual TB testing, and provide annual updated veterinary records if volunteering with their own pets. Pets must be a minimum of one year old to be considered, and must also be "interviewed." Hospice of Michigan requires that any person who has suffered a personal loss wait a period of 12 months prior to volunteering. Thank you for considering this enriching and unique volunteer opportunity.

Help create a beautiful, healing space for the area surrounding Arbor Hospice. The Opportunity: The Arbor Hospice Campus, located in Ann Arbor, has (8) acres of property with (13) gardens and (3) ponds. Our campus is open to the surrounding community, young and old, our staff members, the hospice volunteers, and family members of patients, to walk the property for peace, healing, and reflection. We are looking for both individuals as well as groups of 4-10 volunteers who are interested in working with our Master Gardener to give love and care to our dedicated garden beds. The gardens feature a variety of perennial flowers and native plants in areas around our building and our ponds. A few of our themed garden highlights are the following: a Five Senses Garden, a Pollinator Garden, an Herb Garden, a Monarch Waystation and, to honor our veterans, a Veteran's Memorial Garden. How often would I need to volunteer? We are seeking volunteers for the following Thursday mornings - August 1, 15 and 29. This can also be an ongoing volunteer opportunity throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall. Most of our individual volunteers like to work for a couple of hours in the morning or in afternoon, about twice a month. Our group volunteers may wish to contribute their time in longer time slots, (e.g., 6 hours) for special projects available throughout the seasons. We have several exterior shaded respite areas for scheduled breaks. Who would this opportunity be a good fit for? This is a great way for students to obtain volunteer hours or have some family fun time! If you are looking to volunteer for a non-profit, are looking to benefit the community, are interested in getting fresh air and visiting with others, this is the right opportunity for you! Please consider volunteering if hospice has touched your life and/or you are looking to contribute to the mission of hospice. We welcome corporate groups, church groups, community groups, students, families and groups of friends to apply.
