Create beauty and healing - Volunteer at the healing gardens surrounding Arbor Hospice

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Hospice of Michigan

Help create a beautiful, healing space for the area surrounding Arbor Hospice.

The Opportunity:

The Arbor Hospice Campus, located in Ann Arbor, has (8) acres of property with (13) gardens and (3) ponds. Our campus is open to the surrounding community, young and old, our staff members, the hospice volunteers, and family members of patients, to walk the property for peace, healing, and reflection. We are looking for both individuals as well as groups of 4-10 volunteers who are interested in working with our Master Gardener to give love and care to our dedicated garden beds. The gardens feature a variety of perennial flowers and native plants in areas around our building and our ponds. A few of our themed garden highlights are the following: a Five Senses Garden, a Pollinator Garden, an Herb Garden, a Monarch Waystation and, to honor our veterans, a Veteran's Memorial Garden.

How often would I need to volunteer?

This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity throughout the spring, summer and into the fall. Most of our individual volunteers like to work for a couple of hours in the morning or in afternoon, about twice a month. Our group volunteers may wish to contribute their time in longer time slots, (e.g., 6 hours) for special projects available throughout the seasons. We have several exterior shaded respite areas for scheduled breaks.

Who would this opportunity be a good fit for?

If you are looking to volunteer for a non-profit, are looking to benefit the community, are interested in getting fresh air and visiting with others, this is the right opportunity for you!

Please consider volunteering if hospice has touched your life and/or you are looking to contribute to the mission of hospice. We welcome corporate groups, church groups, community groups, students, families and groups of friends to apply.

Description

What sets us apart

Our staff - Our dedicated doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors and hospice aides form a "cocoon of care" around our patients and families, providing comfort, support and dignity.

Our expertise - Because we are one of the largest hospices in the nation, we have specialists in many areas, including pediatric hospice, pain management, research and care for people with advanced dementia and other illnesses.

Our experience - We have been serving our communities for more than 30 years. Among our 600 employees, we have more board-certified hospice physicians and nurses than other hospices.

Our locations - We have offices and worksites throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Wherever you are, we have a team of hospice specialists who can help you.

Our commitment - We care for all who need and seek our care, regardless of their age, diagnosis or ability to pay. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for our patients and families and for admissions.

Our size - We serve nearly 800 patients and their families every day; nearly one in four hospice patients in Michigan.
