Don’t we all appreciate the comfort that comes from a friendly voice on the other end of the phone? Our faith-based organization is seeking volunteers to call older adults who are isolated, reside alone, or just need encouragement. You could make these simple and brief phone calls to one or several older adults, however many times a week you prefer. The time commitment is very flexible and dependent on volunteer interest. Most Sunshine Callers serve 3-6 hours a week. You will receive pre-service orientation and training. All volunteers must pass state background checks. Overview: With the Telephone Reassurance Program we provide friendly telephone calls to older adults to make them feel less isolated and give them someone friendly to chat with to promote increased socialization, decreased isolation, and the peace of mind that having someone familiar checking in can bring. Responsibilities: Trained volunteers, in addition to having a friendly conversation, can remind seniors to take medications, eat a home-delivered meal or warm a frozen one, and in some cases provide linkage to additional services that can assist. The need: Volunteers are needed for clients in Kankakee, Will and Grundy Counties.
