OHS helps people of very low income and no income to feed their pets. It's such a rewarding opportunity that keeps pet families together, and hopefully fewer pets from having to enter the shelter system in the first place. We need help retrieving pet-related donations, delivering to community centers, as well as handing out pet food and supplies directly with community partner groups as well as with city-sponsored events several times a month. Our drivers pick-up and deliver food generally once a week or bi-monthly depending on the location and the amount of donations coming in. Deliveries usually take just about an hour and donation pick ups are from areas within the Tri-City region. As a volunteer you would be using your own car and fuel. Or if you’re more of an operations type person, we are always looking for people to help bag pet food, build pet care packages to support the various food drives that we participate in, take inventory of our donations, as well as simply help keep things organized and accessible for the team to pull from. Packing can be done either at the convenience home or with a small rotating group at our Pet Pantry location behind Haller’s Pharmacy. We provide the set up and the packing supplies to get the job done. The help gets out to those that need it the most in whatever form that works best for you. If you’re just able to donate pet food, we're here for that too! It can be a great way for a company or family to give back in a meaningful way. We’re a fun group that are passionate about animals and committed to ensuring their place in the community :) Please see our webpage: https://ohlonehumanesociety.org/pet-meals-on-wheels/ where you can submit a volunteer application or help our program in other ways!

Discover the magic of welcoming orphaned kittens into your home to help find a permanent loving home for each. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BE A FOSTER PARENT? A flexible schedule is key! That’s because you’ll be: Taking care of your foster animal until he or she is adopted, or when adoption space becomes available - we can’t always predict how long it will take (several days or weeks for kittens). Transporting your foster animal to veterinary care and vaccination or spay/neuter appointments. Picking up supplies and meeting with potential adult adopters. WHY DO THESE KITTENS NEED FOSTER CARE? Some kittens are too young and/or underweight to be placed up for adoption. Kittens need a home environment where they can feel safe and receive proper socialization. If you foster kittens, you’ll need an area where you can keep them isolated from your own companion animals for a 2-week period minimum. Please see our volunteer foster application on our website for more info!Apply to be an OHS foster family on our webpage: https://ohlonehumanesociety.org/fostering-and-adoption/
