Jewish Family Service is looking for volunteers for the Friendly Connection Program (formerly the Friendly Caller Program) to make routine, check in phone or video calls to older adults and/or to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are homebound and isolated now more than ever during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Connections should be made 1-2 times/week and should last about 15 minutes. Flexible with schedule. Volunteers MUST reside in Monroe County, NY. Training and guidelines provided and volunteers must complete a criminal background check prior to volunteering. Many years ago, Jewish Family Service helped relocate hundreds of Russian immigrants to the Rochester area. Over the years, as the population has aged, we have tailored our services to meet their needs. Currently, we are in need of younger Russian speakers who can help with simple computer instruction. Set up accounts (email, bank, skype, etc) Teach how to use accounts and other programs Help with simple computer glitches and problems Volunteers must speak conversational Russian. Location varies per client. We are also looking for Russian speakers to provide weekly phone calls to our residents. If interested, please complete the following processes. We are looking for volunteers to drop off food packages to members of our community in the Brighton area and surrounding zip codes. These members include those are unable to leave their homes. Deliveries are conducted on Wednesdays with shifts available at 9:30am , 10am and 10:30am. We ask that each volunteer is able to commit to 2 hours although it generally takes about an hour or so. Each volunteer can expect to deliver approx. 3-6 deliveries each shift. The items being delivered are pre-assembled bags or box of grocery food items.(Each package is pre-assembled by the BFC coordinators. Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation. We are looking for "regular" volunteers (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) We will still schedule volunteers for single shifts if unable to commit to consistent schedule.
