JF&CS Lauren and Mark Rubin Visiting Moms is looking for volunteers to serve new moms in the Boston communities, particularly Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan. The Rubin Visiting Moms program matches experienced mothers with new mothers who would benefit from a supportive connection. The Rubin Visiting Mom volunteer, who receives training and ongoing supervision from JF&CS staff, provides supportive visits to the mother of a newborn once a week until the baby’s first birthday. Additionally, the Rubin Visiting Moms group meets bi-weekly for supervision. Who We Are Looking For Experience living in Boston and working/being with families affected by trauma is required. People of color are encouraged to apply, as well as others who are actively committed to cultural humility/awareness. Interested in volunteering? The Rubin Visiting Mom volunteer, who receives training and ongoing supervision from JF&CS staff, provides supportive visits to the mother of a newborn once a week until the baby’s first birthday. The Central MA Rubin Visiting Moms group meets for supervision once per week on Wednesday mornings. JF&CS's Lauren and Mark Rubin Visiting Moms is looking for volunteers to serve new moms in communities on the North Shore, particularly in the Danvers area. The program is looking for dedicated, compassionate volunteers to visit with parents of newborns in their home one hour weekly until the baby’s first birthday. Candidate must be an experienced mom with the flexibility to attend a bi-monthly, two-hour supervision group during weekday morning hours. This position requires approximately 8-10 hours per month. Volunteer Requirements Experienced moms whose children are older than 18 months Have weekday morning availability Have access to a car Attend an initial 10-hour training, held as five 2-hour sessions Commit to attending twice-monthly 2-hour supervision groups (during weekday morning hours) Provide a 1-hour home visit every week for a minimum of one year Provide a minimum of two references Undergo a CORI check How to Apply If you are interested in volunteering as a Rubin Visiting Mom, please fill out this program-specific application form.

Family Table, the largest Kosher food pantry in New England, is seeking Volunteers to pack and deliver groceries to clients on the North Shore. The mission of Family Table is to end hunger in the Greater Boston Jewish community while serving people who need our assistance regardless of religious affiliation. Family Table fulfills its mission by providing kosher food, creating a caring Jewish connection, and empowering people to make healthy eating a part of their daily lives. One Sunday morning a month, volunteers pack healthy, nutritious groceries, and deliver them directly to the clients' homes. This volunteer opportunity takes about 2 hours. Reach out to Older Adults by making personalized greeting cards. Sending a handmade card is a very important way to connect with anyone and particularly with home-bound older adults. In the past, this generation primarily communicated through handwritten notes and letters, so your personally written note will be particularly meaningful. Create your own hand-made, folded cardstock card or use a store-bought card. Here are some guidelines: Write a warm or cheerful message on the inside of the card. Sign your first name (if the card-maker is a child, they can write their age, too). If you are writing on behalf of a school or organization, you can write that as well. Under your name please write, " a JF&CS volunteer." When you send us your cards, it is important that you tell us your name, address, and email address. These details are important to include each time you send us cards. Please leave the cards out of and next to their individual envelopes. We need to read every card and it makes the process so much quicker. Please do not refer to specifics of a season/date/holiday. If you don’t refer to the flowers coming up in spring it gives us the flexibility to send your card at any time. We will be doing this project for a while. Please do not write in script. Most of the cards are going to people for whom English is a second language and are not able to read script. Please do not use 3D stickers or designs, glitter, etc. They are messy, and too challenging to mail and may require additional postage. They just don’t travel well! NOTE: If you are proficient in Russian, we would love to receive cards written in Russian as we have many Russian-speaking clients. Please provide a translation for us of what you have written. Our clients are experiencing isolation following the pandemic in a very different way than many others, and receiving cards is such a wonderful lifeline for them!
