New Horizons provides services to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in our community between the ages of 18 and 25. At our shelter, we provide three meals a day including lunch and dinner, offer access to self-care facilities (showers, laundry, clothing, haircuts) and provide 30 emergency shelter beds 7 nights per week. Additionally, our case management team assists with everything from securing housing to job coaching and financial literacy, and our city contracts allow us to host free medical clinics, mental health counseling, and dental care on site. Above all, New Horizons provides a safe and welcoming space for this at-risk population of Seattle youth and young adults. Direct Service Volunteers interact directly with youth and young adults in the shelter. DST Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in multiple activities including arts and crafts, games, employment services, karaoke singing, and dinner with young adults. DST Volunteers will go through a 1 1/2 hour Direct Service Volunteer Training / Orientation before volunteering in the shelter. Volunteers must pass a background check. DST Volunteers will work directly with Day Program Staff. Volunteer shift for this opportunity - Day Program Shift: Monday-Thursday, 6:00pm - 8:30pm Day Program Shift: Monday - Thursday, 3:00pm - 5:30pm We ask that you make a once a week, six month - year long commitment. You must be 21 or older.

New Horizons is looking for small groups (2 - 3 people) or individuals to come in once a week, Monday - Thursday between 2:00pm - 4:00pm to prepare and serve lunch for 30 young adults. Lunch menus and cooking instructions will be scheduled by the Volunteer and Food Service Manager. Groups or individuals will work directly with the Kitchen and Volunteer Coordinators. Volunteers will be required to obtain a Washington State Food Handler's Card that will be kept on file. A link to the website will be provided to volunteers by the volunteer coordinator. Volunteers will be given a kitchen orientation and a detailed list of lunch preparation and serving duties by the kitchen coordinator. Serving a dinner to youth and young adults (18 - 25 years of age) experiencing homelessness. At New Horizons, food group volunteers prepare or order dinner meals seven days a week. By becoming a food group, you have the opportunity to partner with us, providing the consistency of a hot, home-cooked meal to the youth and young adults while they also receive resources and access to services designed to help lead them towards housing. As a food group volunteer, you and up to 5 others will prepare a meal of your choice for approximately 30 - 35 individuals either in-house at our New Horizons commercial grade kitchen (preferred), or from your own home to drop off at the shelter at dinner time. Monday - Thursday, dinner is served between 7:00pm - 8:00pm. For volunteers wishing to prepare dinner in house, you may arrive as early as 5:30pm, finishing up by 8:30pm. For volunteers opting to drop off meals, we ask that meals are dropped off between 6:00pm - 6:45pm. Friday - Sunday, dinner is served between 9:00pm - 10:00pm. For volunteers wishing to prepare dinner in house, you may arrive as early as 8:00pm, finishing up by10:00pm. For volunteers opting to drop off meals, we ask that meals are dropped off between 8:30pm - 8:45pm. If you are not interested in providing a meal, we are also looking for volunteers who are able to serve dinner. When meals are dropped off by food groups, volunteer servers are needed. Serving time is from 6:00pm - 8:30pm (Monday - Thursday) and 8:30pm - 10:15pm (Friday - Sunday). Currently, wearing a mask in the facility is optional. We are requiring volunteers who are in the facility for longer than 15 minutes to provide proof of vaccination. New Horizons is looking for small groups (3 - 5 people) to come in once or twice a month, Monday - Friday between 8:30am - 11:00am to provide, prepare or drop off a hot breakfast for 30 young adults. Breakfast usually consists of eggs, sausage or bacon, hash browns, pancakes, muffins, juice and milk. Groups will work directly with the Volunteer Coordinator on meal ideas and kitchen orientations. Volunteer group leaders will be required to obtain a Washington State Food Handler's Card that will be kept on file. A link to the website will be provided to group leaders by our volunteer coordinator. The group leader along with the kitchen coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the group adheres to the food handling guidelines. Wearing a mask is optional in the facility. We are currently requiring volunteers who are in the facility longer than 15 minutes to provide proof of vaccination.
