EnCorps STEMx Tutors make a significant difference in a student's relationship with math: 84% of students who take part in the program increased their math scores in the 2022-23 academic year! As a STEMx Tutor you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. You choose the 1:1 or 2:1 student to tutor ratio. As a 1:1 tutor, you will determine the day and time of your virtual tutoring sessions with your student. In turn, the 2:1 tutoring sessions take place for one hour, twice a week between 12:00 - 5:00pm PST. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Time Commitment: 1-hour session twice a week for one school semester. They ask that you commit to tutoring for a minimum of one semester with the option to renew. Many of their tutors have been in the program for three years. Onboarding Process: Application, screening, background check, and orientation. Average onboarding takes about 1 week. Desired Skills/Experience: STEM experience, STEM bachelors degree, or college junior/senior in a STEM program. No previous tutoring experience needed. Physical Requirements: This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations. Please note that to qualify for the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program, applicants must not currently have a California teaching credential / license / certification in the core subject they intend to teach. About the EnCorps STEM Teachers Program The EnCorps STEM Teachers Program recruits STEM professionals interested in exploring teaching in an under-resourced community. Once accepted into the program you are known as an EnCorps Fellow and will work with your dedicated Program Coordinator to develop an individualized plan. As an EnCorps Fellow you will: Volunteer guest teach for two hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks in one of EnCorps’ high-needs partner schools Receive 1:1 planning and support from your Program Coordinator Receive a $150 travel stipend once your guest teaching is completed Gain access to online learning resources, workshops and attend EnCorps’ annual Learning Summit Join a community of career-changing STEM professionals who believe in educational equity Make a tangible difference in a student’s life by giving them an equitable, high-quality STEM education To qualify as an EnCorps Fellow you must be mission-aligned and meet the following requirements: You have STEM industry or education experience that you are eager to share with students Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.50 or higher* Do not currently have a teaching credential / license / certification in math or science in the state in which you are applying Live in an area we serve: California: Greater San Francisco Bay Area; Greater Los Angeles Area / North Orange County; Greater San Diego Area; Greater Riverside Area; Greater Sacramento Area New York: New York City Metropolitan Area Are eligible to work in the United States (US Citizen or Permanent Resident) *In California, if your degree is not in a STEM subject you will have to pass the CSET. Make a difference in a student's life by joining EnCorps' STEMx Tutors program to virtually tutor math to middle school students who are under-performing in Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. As a volunteer math tutor, you will prepare students for the rigor of high school mathematics and establish the foundational knowledge needed to pursue a college education that prepares students for a career in an increasingly technical world. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Time Commitment: The STEMx Tutors program is designed for busy professionals like you. As a STEMx Tutor you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. You choose the 1:1 or 2:1 student to tutor ratio. As a 1:1 tutor, you will determine the day and time of your virtual tutoring sessions with your student. Required Skills/Experience: EnCorps STEMx Tutors must meet the following requirements: Have a bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (does not have to be in a STEM field) and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM industry work experience or have an advanced degree in a STEM field Junior or senior in a college-accredited STEM bachelor's program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher Hold a professional certificate in a STEM field and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM work experience A current or former credentialed math teacher All candidates must also be eligible to work in the US and currently live in the US Training: EnCorps provides its volunteer tutors with training and support. Your dedicated Program Coordinator will provide you access to our Google Classroom where you will find a plethora of resources, invite you to online seminars and offer the option to join our annual Learning Summit where you can network with other tutors as well as STEM professional who are exploring STEM teaching through the EnCorps STEM Teachers program.
