As an HCA Houston Hospice & Family Care volunteer, you are a vital part of the hospice care team. Our team is composed of carefully selected and well-trained volunteers working alongside the professional staff. These special people provide many different types of support for the hospice program and those coping with the terminal illness, grief and loss. Legacy Projects offer a unique opportunity to work with patients, who, in the final months of their life journey desire to tell their story. We need volunteers to assist patients and their family as they share memories and wisdom through various creative projects such as journaling, photo albums, art work, or photography to name a few. Your compassionate heart and willingness to serve is the first step toward becoming a fully engaged hospice volunteer.

We have a fulfilling opportunity to serve in your community. Come join our team as a Hospice Volunteer. Volunteers provide a strong foundation for our care team by assisting patients and families through their end of life journey in many ways. All hospice volunteers receive Free training and ongoing support from Hospice professionals, prior to receiving their patient assignment. You may visit at the patient's bedside: listening / sharing stories, engaging in conversation, playing games, reading books. building puzzles, or painting nails. You can also help as office support with patient mailings, filing paperwork, or providing check-in calls to patients.

Volunteers with a strong sense of compassion are sought in all parts of Houston and surrounding areas to help meet the following needs of terminally ill patients in hospice care. Volunteers can spend time with patients in their home or facility or wherever they call home by: Reading to them Sharing music Listening to their concerns Holding their hand Offering tender companionship Helping them feel loved Volunteers can also help families by spending time with the patient in order for caregivers to: Take a much needed nap Go grocery shopping, Get a haircut or pamper themselves Attend a church service Or just take care of personal business

Volunteers enhance the quality of life for patients and their families by visiting with them where ever the patient calls home. Home might be a private home, an Assisted Living community, or a Skilled Nursing Facility. Volunteers choose a location convenient for them. Provide companionship and emotional support. Listen to music, read a book, play a game, share a hobby or craft. Help caregivers by running an errand, or sit with patients while caregivers take a break. Visit patients who have no family involved in their care, some patients have no one and are very lonely! Free Comprehensive Training Provided.
