Mission Statement

Our Mission: To promote understanding of the fragile balances between mankind and the environment by EDUCATING present and future generations about natural ecosystems of Lake Apopka Basin and by RESTORING and CONSERVING the lands within the Preserve.

Description

The Oakland Nature Preserve is a 128-acre preserve located just west of Orlando, Florida in the town of Oakland, situated on the south shore of Lake Apopka . The Preserve was created to inspire people of all ages to become good stewards of the natural environment, by providing a place to explore and learn about the history and ecology of Central Florida. We offer several hiking trails through oak and pine forests, and a beautifully shaded boardwalk leading through natural wetlands to a covered pavilion on Lake Apopka. Our sustainably-built Visitor & Environmental Education Center offer live animal exhibits, a cultural and natural history museum, a lecture hall for educational programs, and a shaded serenity porch complete with rocking chairs for your relaxation between hikes!

Since the late 1990’s, volunteers have donated thousands of hours to ONP habitat restoration, fund raising, and education. Oakland Nature Preserve’s continued success is not possible without the generosity and dedication of our volunteers. The 128 acre Preserve and the Environmental Education Center offer a number of opportunities for people to help us accomplish our mission.
