Mission Statement

Safe Passage gives abused children a voice and enables the healing process by acting as the single source of contact for medical, investigative and legal services. Safe Passage serves children, from birth to the age of 18, as well as developmentally delayed adults, who are victims of sexual or physical abuse and/or are witnesses to violent crime(s).

Description

Our center is focused on providing a friendly, safe and neutral environment for children and their parent(s) or guardian(s). We assist primarily in the investigation of child abuse cases by having our center available to all partner agencies including the Department of Human Services and law enforcement. We also have trained professionals that conduct the initial investigative forensic interview with child victims and we provide family support advocates to give information and referrals to family members. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners are available to conduct forensically sound examinations of child abuse survivors. We also provide court preparation and court support for children who are needed to testify.

The staff at Safe Passage are experts at letting volunteers know how much they are appreciated. Every time I come to volunteer I never have to worry about feeling unappreciated and never have to sit around doing nothing if there are no clients. The staff nearly always has tasks that can be done by volunteers. Inspite of the core reason for the existence of Safe Passage, it is a pleasant place to come to volunteer. When I leave, after my shift, I always feel good about having spent time at Safe Passage, whether or not I worked with children and their accompanying adults. I can usually find something in common to talk about with the clients. The warm feeling of accomplishment and having done something completely worth my time is far better than any monetary compensation they could have paid to me. I am truly thankful to be allowed to volunteer at Safe Passage. This volunteer job fits perfectly with the skills I’m fortunate enough to have and with my acquired skills.

Safe Passage is a non-profit with a wonderful cause. The volunteer coordinator is lovely to work with, and all the ladies that work within the center are welcoming and appreciative of all the support they receive.

Terrible tragedy, people harming children. This place really does provide a safe environment for children waiting to tell their story. The staff is very friendly.
