General Surgical Floor Unit Assistant volunteer

Unit Assistant volunteers act as patient ambassadors on our in-patient floors. Their main responsibility is to conduct hourly rounding on patients while providing comfort measures and to assist staff with answering patient call lights. Additional duties may include transport and discharge of patients; socializing with patients; transporting specimens to the Lab; taking inventory and filling supplies, cleaning of equipment and messenger runs. This opportunity provides a high level of patient interaction, and you will be trained "on-the-job" by our nurse educators and volunteers. Long term commitment is required and consists of one 4 hour shift per week for 6 months or a total of 100 hours. Shifts available: mornings 9am-1pm and afternoons 1pm-5pm

Neurology Office Administrative Volunteer

Neurology Office Administrative Volunteers provide support to staff in the Neurology Department. Responsibilities may include: front desk and phone reception; hard copy filing; copying or scanning of documents; database entry; putting together information packets and/or mailings and special projects as needed. Weekly, consistent attendance is a priority. A short term commitment requires one-four hour shift per week for a period of six months or a total of 96 hours. Shifts available: Weekday mornings 8am-noon or afternoons noon-4pm. Some flexibility in shift time is available.

Emergency Department Volunteer

Emergency Department volunteers provide customer service support to the Departments patients, guests and visitors. Under the direction of the ER Unit Secretary, the ER volunteer will be responsible for: transport of stable patients to ancillary departments, transporting specimens to Lab; patient rounding while providing comfort measures; messenger runs; filing supplies/cleaning equipment and general clerical assistance. A long term commitment of one four hour shift per week for 6 months (100 hours) is required. Shifts available: mornings 8am-12pm; afternoons 12pm-4pm; evenings 4pm-8pm

Administrative Assistant Volunteer

Administrative volunteers provide support to staff in a variety of Hospital Departments. Under the direction of Staff Supervisor, they may be responsible for: phone reception, visitor or vendor customer service, preparing informational packets, assisting with departmental mailings and general administrative and clerical assistance. Shifts available: Weekday morning 8am-noon or afternoon noon- 4pm shifts available. One four hour shift per week for 6 months is the required time commitment. No weekends available.

Community Engagement (CE)/Special Events Volunteer (SE)

CE/SE volunteers help out with a variety of events that the Rush system coordinates on an on-going basis in the communities we serve. Most of these events will either take place in the Oak Park area or throughout our mission zip codes in the west side of Chicago. Volunteers will be providing non-clinical help at events such as community health fairs, vaccination clinics, etc. A time commitment of 6 months/96 hours with at least one- two events per month required. Shift Times: Days/times TBD per event. May include weekday evening or weekend events.
