Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program's mission is to provide volunteer opportunities that adddress our areas educational, environmental, public safety and human needs. In doing so RSVP fosters civic responsibility while strengthening the ties that bind us together as people. RSVP volunteers are matched by skills and interests to over 135 not-for-profits in Suffolk County. The senior remains active and essential in their community by giving of their time and the volunteer stations reap the benefits of having experienced, committed adults who have "free" time to dedicate to their cause. Our volunteers are as diverse as RSVP's volunteer stations: from blood services, to wildlife refuges to food pantry's and a speakers bureau with many other placements to chose from.
RSVP/Suffolk County has about 800 volunteers placed at over 150 sites in this area. From the "America Reads" literacy initative to Youth mentoring programs and running senior excersize classes at centers and every other placement one can think of, the RSVP program has a presence.
The RSVP volunteer is given supplemental liability insurance while on site and a modest travel reimbursement to their volunteer station. In addition Awards and recognition are given each volunteer annually as to hours served. The volunteer choses their placement, the hours that best suit them and the days that they are available for their volunteerism.
Annually Tribute Day is a large luncheon attended by RSVP volunteers who are acknowledged by leaders of industry and elected officials for their community service.
