Best Friends Animal Society is looking for volunteers to submit Open Records requests for specific AL animal shelters and government bodies. Only Alabama residents can do this so we need YOUR help! You can play a role in bringing your state to No-Kill! This data will allow us to directly target our programs to save the lives of the most at-risk animals and guide our work toward achieving No-Kill in ALL shelters by 2025. If you're comfortable dealing with city officials by e-mail and phone and you have excellent attention to detail, we'd love your help! Some familiarity with shelter stats and terms is helpful too (but not required!). Best Friends Animal Society is on a mission to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters by 2025. Danville’s animal shelter currently saves only 17% of the dogs and cats that enter its facility. The average save rate for shelters in the state of Virginia is over 86%... Danville deserves better! We can save lives if we work together! To approach a similar save rate as the rest of Virginia, we need to save 6 more animals per day. We are looking for volunteers to help us with any of the following volunteer roles: Pet Resource Center volunteer: We are looking for volunteers to "staff" our new Danville Deserves Better campaign office which will function as a community & pet resource center. Services include a pet food and supplies pantry, pet wellness and behavior training, no-kill education hub, and campaign supplies hub. Volunteers will assist visitors with whatever resources they need when they come. Advocacy Field Canvasser : Go door-to-door in residential neighborhoods to speak with residents about supporting changes at the shelter. Duties include distributing fliers, collecting survey responses, collecting signatures, and talking to people about the issue. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/AdvocacyFieldCanvasserVol Advocacy Event Outreach : Help "staff" tables at outreach events in order to distribute materials, speak to attendees, and recruit supporters, donors, and volunteers to help save Danville shelter animals. The District Captain will be the local campaign lead and act as an on-the-ground liaison between Best Friends program staff and public officials. Volunteers will be given scripts and call lists, and will document the outcomes for each phone call (i.e. conversation notes, left a voicemail, and if the call recipient wants/needs more information or follow up). Best Friends National Conference - where people, passion and purpose come together to Save Them All! Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of animals? Here's your chance to be part of something incredible! The Best Friends National Conference is coming up, and we're seeking dedicated volunteers like you to help make it a lifesaving success. Roles: Various roles available starting with setup on February 19 and ending with teardown on February 22, all focused on event assistance (no animal handling involved). Virtual Opportunity
Data drives everything we do at Best Friends Animal Society, and collecting shelter intake and outcome data is critical for saving animals' lives. It lets us know where animals need help and how we can best direct our resources to save the most lives. We're looking for Strategic Shelter Engagement volunteers to establish relationships with shelters to gather their animal intake and outcome data in January 2025. You can see more details about the role here: https://bit.ly/SSEv2 Strategic Shelter Engagement is one of the most impactful volunteer roles we have at Best Friends. To be successful in this position, you must be comfortable cold calling shelters and be persistent with significant follow up. Training is provided via online modules and recorded meetings.
