COME JOIN OUR TEAM OF EXCEPTIONAL PROVIDERS Americares operates four free clinics in Fairfield County in Norwalk, Bridgeport, Danbury and Stamford. Our mission is to provide free quality health care to low-income, uninsured residents in a setting where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. By partnering with local hospitals and Quest Diagnostics for donated laboratory and diagnostic testing, and by supplementing our team with volunteer staff, we are able to provide free primary care to the working poor. Since 1994, we have provided more than $155 million in medical care to more than 28,000 patients. Providers receive excellent support from a caring and competent team of nurses, interpreters and patient care coordinators. Physicians should be Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine. Nurse practitioners function as providers and must have at least 2 years of experience treating adults. Volunteer providers are expected to work two 4-hour clinic sessions per month. Medical malpractice coverage is provided for all volunteers while on site. Providers who have been retired for more than 2 years must show evidence of some continuing work in a related field. Retired physicians who volunteer more than 100 hours in a calendar year are eligible to waive their state license renewal fee.
