Senior Companions are part of the National Senior Corps program and focused on a "friends-helping-friends" volunteer program model. Isolation and stress are two of the top reasons for health issues in all ages. Research is now showing that having simply having a friend can decrease both stress and isolation leading to a decrease in onset of health problems including dementia and Alzheimer's. Your friendship can dramatically impact someone's health for the better. No technical experience needed! Senior Companion Program (SCP) partners senior volunteers with adults living independently, who need companionship and a helping hand. In addition to paying a friendly visit, companions often perform a variety of tasks, such as shopping for groceries, writing a letter, or fixing a light meal. In many cases, the senior companion plays a vital role in the life of their client, providing a much-needed link from the community and helping them to remain independent and connected to the community. Senior Companion volunteers are matched with clients who live right in their own communities. Volunteers must be ages 55+ to join this program and are asked to contribute 20-40 hours per week to being a Companion. Apply online and fill out a SSSEVA Volunteer Application to get started today. https://www.ssseva.org/page/become-a-volunteer/
