Volunteer Opportunity Help Trellis expand our reach in your community; be a volunteer that helps spread the word about vital services available through the Minnesota Board on Aging’s Senior LinkAge Line and Trellis. Help us get the word out about free: non-biased Medicare counseling, educational presentations, receiving benefits enrollment assistance, and more! Organization Mission & Vision Trellis is a nonprofit organization that provides innovative services, information, and connections that address the changing needs of aging adults in our community. As the designated area agency on aging for the seven county Metro area, Trellis helps people optimize well-being as they age. Volunteer Role As a Volunteer, you will help us: Appropriately post information in heavy traffic areas of your community on your schedule. Materials will be provided. Raise awareness of Trellis and Senior LinkAge Line services within your community Promote and flyer for a variety of free services we offer - Medicare counseling appointments, presentations on a variety of topics that support older adults and their caregivers, Senior Linkage Line services, Trellis' Benefits Enrollment Center, and Juniper’s health and wellness classes Form a bridge between your community and Trellis by sharing resources we give to you, such as posting flyers and/or providing our materials to beneficial places in your community Help remind the public of each Medicare Open Enrollment period Provide feedback on the needs of your community and help brainstorm ways to better meet those needs Participate in occasional Ambassador Team check-in meetings (via phone or Zoom) Requirements This role is best suited to someone who likes to "hit the pavement" and get things done. A volunteer for this role is a self-motivated, independent, energetic person with great communication skills. A desire to get involved in you community and to spread the word about services that help your family, friends, and neighbors Sensitivity to the needs of older adults, person with disabilities, and diverse populations Successful completion of criminal background check Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team Effective communication skills (email, telephone, video chats) Benefits Participate in a nonprofit that helps people everyday, usually during some of the hardest points in life where help is most needed. Expand your social network and increase your professional development opportunities. Time Investment As a Volunteer Ambassador you will make your own hours, so time will vary. The world of Medicare, housing, and senior services can be a maze, and many older adults and persons with disabilities are getting lost! Call Center volunteers assist individuals and caregivers in navigating all things related to aging via a secure phone and computer system at the Trellis office in Arden Hills. Become trained to answer questions about: Understand Medicare basics Compare Medicare Advantage and Supplement Plan options Understand and compare Medicare Part D choices Consider eligibility for Medical Assistance Identify, report, and prevent Medicare Fraud and Abuse Volunteer Requirements: Desire to participate in a volunteer position that is in-person at our office in Arden Hills. Submission of a resume during the application process. Sensitivity to the needs of older adults, person with disabilities, and other diverse populations Desire to assist older adults and caregivers to understand their Medicare options Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions as required Exceptional communication and customer service skills Be comfortable with consistent coaching with your team and not knowing every answer. Compliance with agency’s non-conflict of interest, confidentiality, and other policies Strong computer skills. Being comfortable with navigating multiple applications on multiple screens, using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Suite, and navigating web browsers. This role requires successful completion of a criminal background check; a social security number must be provided for this background check.
