The Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging (MAAA) has a mission to assist individuals to age successfully and develop the capacity of communities to care for an aging population. Our Medicare Phone Bank Counselors have an important part in that mission by providing phone assistance to seniors and family members and caregivers with questions related to Medicare.
Volunteer Counselors are trained to help individuals with a wide variety of Medicare-related questions. Examples include describing Medicare basics and all its parts, Medicare Advantage and Supplement Plans, eligibility for financial help, fraud and abuse issues and more.
Qualifications for Phone Bank Volunteer Counselors include excellent phone communications skills, a comfort with database technology systems, the ability to work independently, and a desire to help individuals from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Previous insurance or Medicare background is helpful but not required.
We provide volunteers for the Phone Bank Counselor position a three-day training on Medicare and its related programs and on the health insurance counseling process. In addition you will receive Quarterly Training updates on current topics pertinent to the job. In addition to excellent formal training volunteer Phone Bank Counselors also receive ongoing staff support and assistance in the resolution of complex cases. You will also be protected by liability insurance and you will receive volunteer mileage reimbursement.
