MINNESOTA NORDIC SKI OPENER Sat. December 9, 2022 (Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove) Embrace winter by kicking off the cross-country ski season at the Minnesota Nordic Ski Opener! Skiers of all abilities and ages are invited to kick off winter with free skiing, free rental equipment, and free ski lessons. THREE RIVERS PARK PATROL Bike, hike, cross-country ski, snowshoe, in-line skate, or horseback ride and help park guests! Required training is held in fall and spring and includes: new patroller orientation, CPR, first aid, patrol simulations and bi-annual meetings. Park patrollers must be 16 years or older (horseback patrollers must be 18 years or older and own their own horse), physically fit, and intermediately skilled in their chosen mode of patrolling. Training: the next training dates will be set for October 2023. Do you snowshoe, cross country ski, or just plain enjoy winter?? We need your help at the first Winter Play Day festival at Hyland Park Reserve! Volunteers will help provide a safe, fun, and engaging atmosphere for folks of all ages in this celebration of winter. Volunteers needed to help with: fire tending (must be 18+) welcoming/orienting guests cross country ski and snowshoe rentals During your shift, you'll receive: hot cocoa/coffee/cider and a meal on us. About the festival: Join free mini-lessons and demonstrations about skijoring, snow-making and more Try a new activity with free walk-up rentals for snowshoes, cross-country skis and adaptive sit-ski equipment Browse a winter market featuring local vendors Participate in interactive nature education and exploration activities, including a trail ride and winter fun walk in the park Warm up with warm beverages and food in the food tent Warm up at bonfires throughout the festival Explore the park and look for the ice sculpture Have fun with snow in the Snow Play Area, where you can paint snow or explore the quinzhee (shelter built out of snow)

Help keep winter recreators safe on the hill with this high demand, high reward volunteer role. Three Rivers Alpine Ski Patrol is a highly trained, regionally and nationally recognized group of volunteers. Patrollers must commit to a minimum of 60 hours each winter season, successfully complete and pass extensive initial training in emergency care and patrol skills as well as annual refreshers, and maintain membership and current certifications with National Ski Patrol. Help guests in need. Gain new skills with advanced level continuing education, hands-on experience, and leadership opportunities. And earn alpine area and other Three Rivers volunteer privileges! The candidate class fills fast; however, highly motivated, enthusiastic skiers and boarders are encouraged to apply and participate in the annual "Tryout Day". Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area in Bloomington and the Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area in Maple Grove (which also includes a tubing hill).
