Board Members Wanted for CASA of Placer and Yuba Counties

Child Advocates of Placer County has recently expanded our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program to include Yuba County foster children. As such, we are looking for two Board of Directors candidates to help us with this expansion by providing direct financial support and connecting us with resources to help us grow the program to serve the100+ foster children on our waitlist!

Make a lasting impact! Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are trained volunteers appointed by a judge to provide advocacy for children who have been placed in foster care due to abuse or neglect. With ongoing support from our Case Managers, CASA volunteers serve as the " eyes and ears of the judge and the voice of the child" in dependency court. By spending one-on-one time with their assigned child, a CASA is able to monitor their care and provide individualized, child-focused recommendations to the court. Our CASAs advocate for the best interest of the child in the courtroom, classroom, and at home. Through the hard work and dedication of these volunteers, local foster kids receive crucial medical, dental, and mental health services, participate in sports, arts, and other extra-curricular activities, and have a safe, stable adult to ensure their voice is heard.

Stop the cycle, become a Family Mentor!

Child Advocates of Placer County Family Mentor program provides trained volunteer Mentors to parents whose children are in the foster care system or at risk of entering the system. The Family Mentor visits the home of the parent each week and helps the parent develop a variety of life skills surrounding things like health, nutrition, budgeting, organization, home care, education, and career and job search. The minimum commitment for a Family Mentor case with a parent is 90 days. After the initial 90 days both volunteer and parent can reassess to see if they want to renew their contract and continue on with their relationship working toward success together. Our program provides all of the necessary training to work effectively with the parent. The goals of the Family Mentor program are: To prevent the child from entering or re-entering the child welfare system. To help the parent(s) become more independent and self-sufficient. To end the cycle of child welfare involvement in these families for the next generation.
