Members of diverse communities are invited to join our San Diego Natural History Museum Canyoneer Team to engage our community with the wonders of our local nature and to inspire a connection with each other and our natural world, while walking on our beautiful local trails. Our volunteer programs strives to make museums, science, and the outdoors accessible to all, creating a welcoming and engaging environment, particularly for community members who have traditionally been under-represented in these sectors. Teams of Canyoneers lead small groups on hikes, that are open to the public and FREE, and that explore our coasts, canyons, foothills, mountains, and desert. The hiking season begins in September and ends in June, with hikes scheduled on most weekends and on some week days. Training is through September - November, Saturdays, 8 am - 3 pm. Training topics focus on providing new volunteers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead interpreted hikes, and cover areas of natural history that would be experienced on our trails. No prior background or education in natural history is required- just a desire to be outdoors and introduce our community members to our amazing natural world. Canyoneers are asked to lead six hikes per year for at least two years. Submit an application at this link: https://www.volgistics.com/appform/369185841
