Catholic Hospice, serving Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, is implementing a new program called Acts of Kindness where community artisans and craftspeople can donate handcrafted items and creations for patients. Our patients and their families would greatly appreciate your sincere gesture because it means knowing that others in the community are thinking about them. We will accept cards of encouragement and blank note cards; blankets and quilts; and hand-sewn personal items. A few examples include neck pillows, gowns, positioning pillows, shirt savers, small paintings, activity blankets and hand-crafted items. Catholic Hospice, serving Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, is looking for Companion Care Volunteers. Companion Care Volunteers provide companionship to hospice patients and respite to caregivers by playing games with a patient, reading, singing songs, or simply just spending time with them. Patient visits are available 7 days a week from 9 am till 9 pm throughout Miami-Dade and Broward county. As a volunteer with Catholic Hospice, you will receive specialized training in serving hospice patients and ongoing support to meet the specific needs of terminally ill patients living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities, and medical centers. Volunteering with hospice does not have to be sad; it can be a truly uplifting experience. Volunteering can be one of the most rewarding experiences you may ever have. Taking a few hours out of your week to spend time with a hospice patient can make a profound difference in their life and yours. After your initial contact expressing interest in this volunteer opportunity, I'll email you a volunteer application to be filled out. Requirements for all new volunteers are the following: submit to a drug screening and background screening, which is at the cost of Catholic Hospice. Additionally, potential volunteers must provide a copy of their drivers license or identification card and car insurance (if applicable). Our new volunteer orientation is done once a month via zoom and you're expected to participate in one of the training dates. Once all requirements have been met, you're officially able to visit patients.

Camp Erin is a free bereavement camp for youth ages 6 to 17 years old who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. Camp Erin combines grief education and emotional support with fun, traditional camp activities. At Camp Erin, campers learn about grief and essential coping skills while creating meaningful connections with peers their age who have similar experiences. On July 29, we are hosting a special one-day family camp for youth and their families to experience Camp Erin. We are currently accepting volunteer applications for Cabin Big Buddies (CBBs). Cabin Big Buddies are trained volunteers responsible for supporting the families assigned to you during our one-day camp. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Collaborating with camp staff and other volunteers in creating a positive, fun, and supportive environment for families Providing support and assistance to your assigned family with activities or when needed Assisting with set-up and clean-up of activities Other tasks and responsibilities assigned by camp staff Being a Cabin Big Buddy is a truly rewarding experience that allows you to directly impact the lives of the families who are struggling with loss! Candidates interested in becoming a Cabin Big Buddy must be 18 years or older and graduated High School. Candidates must have experience working with children and/or teens, and preferably have experience working with grief or have personal experience with grief/loss. Training will be provided virtually on Zoom in June 2023 and is a mandatory requirement for all candidates. In order to apply, candidates must complete a volunteer application, submit two (2) professional references, attend mandatory training(s), and complete and pass a background and drug screenings prior to CBB assignment. Catholic Hospice is a not-for-profit organization which provides compassionate care for the terminally ill and their families. We have been serving people of all faiths since 1988. Administrative Volunteers provide support to office personnel in the following departments: Accounts Payable, Clinical Teams, Community-Development, Education, Medical Records, Medical Supplies, Human Resources, etc. They perform various tasks such as filing, shredding documents, copying, preparing mailings, data entry, answering phones and overseeing the operations of the medical supply area (fulfilling supply requests, placing orders, receiving shipments and inventory control). Administrative Volunteer openings are available Miami Lakes office. Assignments are available between the hours of 9 to 4 on weekdays. A background check as well as a drug test will be conducted. Once an inquiry is received a Catholic Hospice staff member will reach out to you with further information and to discuss your interest.
