Looking for an exciting volunteer opportunity that will change lives? Dogs for Better Lives is seeking Puppy Raisers in your area! Puppy raisers help build strong foundations for our puppies who have the potential to become future Assistance Dogs. As a raiser you will gain the training and skills needed to raise successful puppies. Our raisers attend training classes, teach our puppies basic obedience and good manners, provide a safe home environment, and help expose the puppy to a multitude of different environments, people, surfaces, and other stimuli. Our puppy raisers receive a puppy at approximately eight (8) weeks of age and continue to raise the puppy until it is between 12 to 14 months of age, when the puppy is ready to return to Dogs for Better Lives to begin their next step towards becoming an Assistance Dog. By raising a puppy for Dogs for Better Lives, you will become a part of a team dedicated to helping others.Changing the life of a family in need to live a more independent lifestyle with the help of the assistance dog you helped raise. Puppy Raisers should - * Have no more than two dogs, and they must be over two years old. * Have the ability to attend all puppy classes. * Be willing to learn from our trainers and use our methods of training. * Have the time to dedicate to raising a foster puppy. * Have patience and understanding. * Previous experience with puppies is a plus! Thank you for your interest in Dogs for Better Lives and it's Regional Advisory Board (RAB) - Pacific Northwest opportunity in Washington (Seattle/Puget Sound), Oregon (Portland, Medford), and Idaho (Boise and Metro). Do you have a love of dogs and want to help make it possible for them to train, find purpose, and be placed as Service Dogs with people with disabilities? This is all made possible at no cost to the client, thanks in large part to the contributions volunteers make, such as with RAB. We’d love for you to join Dogs for Better Lives' Regional Advisory Board - PNW! Dogs for Better Lives (DBL) currently has Regional Advisory Boards (RAB) in California, Pacific Northwest (OR, WA), Northeast (MA, ME, CT, PA, NH, RI), and now working to launch a RAB in the South (TX) and Southeast (GA, FL, SC, NC, TN) regions. In the Pacific Northwest region, the RAB is primarily focused on raising general awareness and supporting and promoting DBL's Puppy Raiser Program. DBL has an ongoing need for volunteers to raise puppies in-training for their first 12-14 months, prior to going back to West Coast Campus (Central Point, OR) for 4-6 months of professional training, prior to placement with a fully vetted client. RAB’s are comprised of like-minded individuals that have a passion for dogs and giving back to people with disabilities in their communities. Members are responsible for marketing the mission of DBL, participating in outreach events, as well as planning and fundraising through a variety of initiatives. One of those initiatives annually is National Service Dog Month in September where RABs plan events in their local communities where DBL has a presence, including Barks & Brews, artwalks, and winery events. How it works: Members commit to be a volunteer RAB member for a minimum of 12 months (1 year) Meet monthly, via Google Chat, with other RAB members to plan events, share ideas, and work together to further DBL’s mission in your community Quarterly, all RAB’s across the country meet together on Microsoft Teams along with DBL leadership and Board member mentors to have strategic discussions about upcoming events, continuing education opportunities, and more. Commit to fundraising and spreading the word about DBL with your network of friends, family and colleagues. What you get in return: Be a part of something larger than yourself! You’ll have a DIRECT impact on DBL’s ability to provide our services to your community. Networking opportunities with like-minded individuals, DBL staff and board members.
