Our busy Hospice Office is looking for volunteers to greet at the front desk, answer phone calls and complete light office projects. If you have been supported by a hospice agency or know someone who has, you know that hospice is a different type of health care. Supporting office staff supports the whole team. It makes space for the Apex team, including our volunteers, to care fully and intentionally for our patients and their families. If you are a friendly person that likes people and that believes in the hospice philosophy of care which recognizes that dying is not just a medical event but a personal one as well. We would love to have you join our team! Training for this position will be provided. The schedule is set by the office team and the volunteer with an expectation for 2.5 to 4 hours shifts 1 or 2 times a week. The schedule is negotiable so if you are interested but have a different time commitment in mind, reach out and we can talk about it.

You can bring comfort to patients and their families by sharing you musical gifts. There are opportunities to share in a 1:1 setting with patients and in a facility group setting. Music is known to have a profound effect on a person's physical, mental and emotional well-being. Research shows that music can help ward off depression, manage stress and help with pain management. Music creates a space to express feelings, enhance memory, promote movement and ease muscle tension. "As people face a terminal illness and are confined to a hospital bed or hospice room, music can provide a great source of solace." Science Daily If you love to sing, play an instrument, or listen to music, then we want you to join our volunteer team! Many of our patients would love to hear music - in any form - and would welcome the opportunity to have you visit and bring the gift of your music. Your gift of music will make life more pleasant for individuals during their end of life transition.

Are you looking for a project that you can do on your own time? Make Fleece blankets for Hospice patients! People that are suffering with a terminal illness are chilly all year long. Fleece tie blankets are simple to make. They are lovely and they are warm. Plus, they have the bonus of fidget ties on the edges for our memory care patients! Bright colors and friendly patterns can add cheer to a nursing facility room and bring a smile to our patients. Blankets are accepted at the Westmont office or can be coordinated to be picked up when you have completed them. Volunteers are asked to provide their own supplies. Making blankets is an excellent Community group project for schools, churches and businesses that are looking for a way to give back in their community. Holiday/winter blankets and designs are in demand as we move into the season Apex staff support is available to teach blanket making and explain hospice care to the group in an age appropriate manner. Groups would need to provide 2 to 3 yards of fleece per blanket, sharp scissors and tables or clean floors for working spaces. We suggest 2 people to make each blanket unless you are making them at home with no time constraints. Make a warm difference today!
