At Northside Common Ministries (NCM), we are committed to building those bridges that connect our neighbors in need to an improved quality of life, while tearing down the walls that keep the hungry and homeless from success. An affiliate unit of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, NCM operates the Pleasant Valley Emergency Shelter for men and male-identifying individuals aged 18 and older, the Northside Food Pantry, and a Permanent Housing Program for those with disabilities. We can’t do all that we do without YOU! NCM’s work is supported and facilitated by hundreds of passionate volunteers throughout the year. Virtual Opportunity
Goodwill of Southwestern PA is looking for individuals who enjoy helping others to make an impact in the adult learning community by assisting our adult HSE (High School Equivalency) instructors in their online classes. If you have experience teaching Social Studies, an interest in history, or just a desire to help adults achieve their education goals, please reach out and we can talk more! We are currently seeking classroom aides for an online Social Studies class that meets Mondays and Wednesdays in the evenings. Even if you don't have experience with teaching or helping in a classroom, but are comfortable teaching someone basic skills and believe you have the patience to work with an adult learner, please reach out. After filling out an application, meeting with me over zoom, and getting your background clearances, we would have you complete appropriate trainings, talk with the teacher, observe 1-2 classes, and then you'd receive lesson plans and the worksheets that you would share with your students. You would have access to the teacher and to me for any questions, guidance, or training that you would need. Must have familiarity with and be willing to learn Zoom annotation, screen sharing, breakout rooms, etc. (It's not that hard! I can help you!) Our students in this class are working towards getting their High School Equivalency degrees by either completing their GED or HiSet tests. Volunteers ideally have their high school diploma or high school equivalency and a desire to help adult students achieve their educational goals! All Volunteers must live in either PA or one of the bordering states (NJ, NY, OH, MD, WV). Those i nterested can reply to this listing or if you have any questions, please contact Ashley Reilly, Education Volunteer Coordinator by text at 412-498-0412 or by email at ashley.reilly@goodwillswpa.org
