Mission Statement

For over 30 years, Arts & Scraps has reimagined recycled materials to inspire people of all ages to think, create and learn.

Description

Arts & Scraps is open to the public to stuff bags with safe, accessible recycled industrial materials. We also host educational and curriculum-based field trips, on site workshops for children and adults and create art and curriculum kits for 10 to 35 students. We bring activity tables to events throughout the Metro Detroit Area. Our warehouse uses volunteers of all abilities to sort, pack and prepare materials for our programs and learning kits.

Our family loves volunteering at Arts and Scraps. They have an easy process to sign up and great communication, usually get a response within a day. They are highly organized and put us right to work when we get there. We have gone several times over the past year and have felt very safe with air purifiers, cleaners, spaced out, etc. My children have gained skills and confidence through their time there. Highly recommend!

Volunteer location instructions were vague and calls to inquire where they had set-up went to a voice mail account that was "not set-up yet." When I finally found the location, the woman and man already there told me they had the same problem. As they we were volunteers, none of us had a clue what we were supposed to do so we pretty much winged it! We never met or were met by anyone from the organization and the only thing that provided any fulfillment with this experience was the smile of all the kids that stopped by and winged it with us!

This was a lovely, well organized event. Christmas perfect...down to the day-long falling snow.

I attended an event at Cobo hall, downtown Detroit, and had a blast helping my peers.

I love the idea behind the cause, plus my friend and I had so much fun working with the kids!

They use recycled materials that help encourage creative and artistic thinking in children. It was a fun atmosphere. Will volunteer again.

I enjoyed my volunteer opportunity in Feb. 2010. The organization is set up to use recycled products to create fun projects for children. They have many needs for volunteers and are very appreciative of the time you can donate to them. I look forward to doing future volunteer opportunities with this group!

I've volunteered for them multiple times and enjoyed each project. Lots of creativity in both the kids and the volunteers.

This organization is fun, enjoyable, and has a great way of showing people a comfortable environment. I would highly recommend for others to volunteer for them as I have. One thing that I do want to suggest is that they get better structure. :}
