Drive Our Mobile Food Distribution Trailer to Help Neighbors with Food Insecurity

Do you have experience driving a trailer (ie horse trailer, boat, camper, any large trailer)? Use your driving skills to join us for a unique food distribution called, "Food On the Move" where we take our 5 th wheel trailer with food to various areas in our 26 county service area within Missouri and Illinois. Once at the location, help to distribute food to neighbors in areas where they have limited access to fresh foods. Our volunteers drive the truck and trailer with staff and other volunteers to these pre-determined distribution locations. You will need experience pulling a trailer. Here’s a little more about the volunteer need: Drive a dually Ford F-450 truck with a goose neck 32-foot trailer (pictured below) to and from Food on the Move events. While there together with volunteers, help set up the trailer unpacking the food and help with distribution of the food. After the event, help secure leftover food and pack up trailer to drive back to the St. Louis Area Foodbank. There are 27 Food on the Move events each month to choose from Monday - Saturday. Each event has different hours but are between 4-8 hours/event. You’ll always start at the St. Louis Area Foodbank then drive the truck/trailer with volunteers and a Foodbank staff member to and from the distribution location. We would like our drivers to be able to commit to 1 event/month Over the last two years, the Food on the Move initiative has had tremendous success bringing support to communities lacking adequate access or transportation to food outlets and grocery stores. Please advise your experience in driving a trailer. Once it is determined this is something you would like to pursue, the next steps will be a criminal background check, motor vehicle driving record check and then a brief driving test with the truck and trailer here at the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

Distribute Food at Our Mobile Distribution to Local Neighbors

Come with us to our "Food On the Move" events and experience first-hand the difference you can make in a neighbor’s life. You will help assist us in achieving our goal of providing food and resources to our community while eliminating transportation barriers. We minimize food waste by allowing people to choose quantities and products that fit their needs. Volunteers for this event will first come to the St. Louis Area Foodbank to help load the trailer and then either ride with Foodbank staff to the distribution site or drive themselves to site. These distributions are outside events. Please wear closed toe shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals or groups of up to 3 people to help with various shifts Mondays through Saturdays. Must be 18 years or older. Anyone can affect hunger, and hunger can affect anyone. We are stronger with your help. You can make a difference for neighbors in your community. There is so much need for the Foodbank services in our area, and they make it sooooo easy for all of us to help in a small way. If we all do just a little, big things do happen! We've been coming for years and have seen it expand and improve. The people there are great! The FoodBank is the best volunteer opportunity around!!!

In only 3 hours 20 volunteers can make 15,000 meals able to be distributed to hungry people in your own community. Its terrific to be apart of something so effective.
