Drive Our Mobile Food Distribution Trailer to Help Neighbors with Food Insecurity

Do you have experience driving a trailer (ie horse trailer, boat, camper, any large trailer)? Use your driving skills to join us for a unique food distribution called, "Food On the Move" where we take our 5 th wheel trailer with food to various areas in our 26 county service area within Missouri and Illinois. Once at the location, help to distribute food to neighbors in areas where they have limited access to fresh foods.

Our volunteers drive the truck and trailer with staff and other volunteers to these pre-determined distribution locations.

You will need experience pulling a trailer. Here’s a little more about the volunteer need:

• Drive a dually Ford F-450 truck with a goose neck 32-foot trailer (pictured below) to and from Food on the Move events.
• While there together with volunteers, help set up the trailer unpacking the food and help with distribution of the food.
• After the event, help secure leftover food and pack up trailer to drive back to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.
• There are 27 Food on the Move events each month to choose from Monday - Saturday.
• Each event has different hours but are between 4-8 hours/event.
• You’ll always start at the St. Louis Area Foodbank then drive the truck/trailer with volunteers and a Foodbank staff member to and from the distribution location.
• We would like our drivers to be able to commit to 1 event/month

Over the last two years, the Food on the Move initiative has had tremendous success bringing support to communities lacking adequate access or transportation to food outlets and grocery stores.

Please advise your experience in driving a trailer. Once it is determined this is something you would like to pursue, the next steps will be a criminal background check, motor vehicle driving record check and then a brief driving test with the truck and trailer here at the St. Louis Area Foodbank.
