Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering at Kentucky Great Writers Series events at the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning on April 11, 6-8:30 pm The Kentucky Great Writers Series features authors who live or have lived in Kentucky and have one or more works of high literary quality. Reading events take place four times a year. Readers and writers interact with published authors in an intimate atmosphere at the Carnegie Center. Admission is free and the event involves author readings, a Q&A in which the audience can participate, and a book signing afterwards. An average of 60 people typically attend. Volunteers help track the number of attendees, take notes on audience demographics and the event, then after the readings solicit feedback from a few attendees and help with easy clean-up. Sometimes volunteers help set up coffee and extra chairs, or move furniture back into place.

Flexible Schedule
|
Lexington, KY 40507
The Carnegie Center is currently recruiting volunteer tutors for the one-on-one tutoring program for the last half of the school year 2022-2023. Tutors may choose to tutor in-person at the Carnegie Center, or be matched with a child for virtual instruction. Tutoring requires a one-hour-a-week commitment and hours are flexible. Tutors may select their preferred grade level and schedule. Learn, play, and make a difference in a child's life! Tutor matches are more important than ever- children have had limited access to learning and social interactions over the last 16 months. Tutoring helps a child re-build their confidence in learning and builds social skills which are crucial for success and overall well-being. All tutors must be 16 years of age or older, if over 18 the volunteer must pass a background check. Orientations and trainings are available and every tutor gets to take a free class at the Carnegie Center! To sign up, please contact Carol Jordan at tutoring@carnegiecenterlex.org. *If tutor and tutee choose to meet at the Carnegie Center, tutoring will be spaced out in well-ventilated areas. All parties will be required to wear a facial covering. We ask that all tutors be fully vaccinated and wear a mask at all times Virtual Volunteers across the US welcome!
