Spanish-speaking Tutors Needed!

Flexible Schedule | Virtual Opportunity

Azura Literacy's virtual reading tutor program pairs volunteers with underserved elementary kids to help improve their reading skills and instill a love of reading. Volunteers read with students one-on-one on Zoom, sharing digital children's books and materials to help kids read independently and listen to read-alouds. Many of our students are Spanish-speaking, and their parents would like assistance helping them read in English. We are in need of more tutors who are bilingual in English/Spanish. This program is virtual, so volunteers can serve from anywhere! Volunteer requirements: at least 18 years old bilingual (English-Spanish) have basic computer skills (use of internet, Zoom, and web browsers) have a laptop or desktop computer and solid internet connection pass a background check/fingerprint clearance pass a literacy screening interview with the program director attend a multi-day virtual training session available to commit to at least one hour per week (split into two 30-minute sessions) available to commit to at least one semester (12-15 weeks in Fall, Spring, or Summer) During the school year, our reading sessions are on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays every half hour between 3:30pm-6:30pm. During the summer, reading sessions are Mon/Thurs, Tues/Fri, or Wed/Sat between 10am-7pm. Mission Statement

Through our volunteer program we hope to connect individuals who desire to serve in the community with the opportunities that are available. HELENS HOPE CHEST helps foster children with their basic needs, giving children a similar experience of shopping in a consignment store. although the clothing is gently used, children in foster care are given the opportunity to select styles and colors they like. 16 individual rooms accommodate the basic needs of infants,toddlers,children, teens and young adults transitioning out of foster care. MESA VETERANS RESOURCE CENTER provides comprehensive support services to veterans and their families. The MVRC provides resources and referrals to assist in various areas including benefits claims, employment, mental health, and homelessness.

Description

Helens Hope Chest is opened Mon - Fri 8 -5 with the occasional Saturday. Our volunteers must respect the privacy of these delicate children.
We are looking for caring,reliable volunteers willing to commit to at least a year of service a minimum of 4 hours per week or more.

Mesa Veterans Resource Center is open Mon - Fri 8-4. We are looking for ongoing volunteers that can commit at least an hour a month.

They really care about other people especially children. They raise money for all of the other non profits in town so that they to can help within the Mesa community. Really a nice group to volunteer with
