We are looking for those who want to volunteer with hospice, but aren't necessarily ready to be a companion to a patient. We also have administrative duties such as: making care calls to patients, checking to make sure they have sufficient supplies to make it through the weekend creating admit packets for new patients, and general clerical duties.

Pet therapy-the use of trained animals to benefit patients and improve outcomes-is a way to effectively address patients' stress while in healthcare settings. Physical health Can improve motor skills, joint movement, and cardiovascular health. It can also help with exercise and lower blood pressure and heart rate. Mental health Can improve mood, reduce depression and anxiety, and decrease feelings of anger. Being around animals can also help reduce stress, tension, and anxiety hormones. Social skills Can help develop social skills, increase verbal communication, and improve interactions with others. It can also help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. We welcome you and your pet to help us ease some stress, loneliness, depression, and isolation some of our patients experience.

Do you belong to a group that enjoys providing a service to individuals in need or are you an individual that wants to give back? Inspiration Hospice has several patients in need of new quilts or blankets. We would love your donations if you know how to make blankets or quilts. Several of our patients are in their 80s and 90s and are usually cold due to their condition. We are always in need of new handmade quilts or blankets to donate to these wonderful people. Hospice patients have been given six months or less to live and have lost so much. We try to make them as comfortable as possible during their last days. If you are interested in making these items and donating them to our patients, please contact me. There is no more extraordinary deed on earth than to give unselfishly of yourself.

Our volunteers offer terminally ill patients and their families comfort, support, and companionship during a patient’s most challenging days, weeks, and months. Our volunteers report they are motivated by a desire to give something back, but soon find that the spiritual and emotional rewards they receive far outweigh the time and caring they contribute. Volunteer Opportunities Patient Care - providing emotional support and practical assistance that enhance the comfort and quality of life for patients/families/caregivers. These services include being available for companionship, listening, quiet company, and preparing meals. Respite Assistance - volunteers may offer their services to sit with a patient or simply be a presence in the home while providing family members or caregivers a break from patient care. Family members or caregivers may choose to leave home or take a much-needed nap. Respite volunteers provide both the patient and the caregiver with the knowledge that someone else is in the home and the patient is not alone. 11th Hour - spend time at the bedside while a patient is "actively dying" ensuring that no one dies alone. (special training provided) Qualifications Must be 18 years or older Submit to a TB test and criminal background check Have compassion and a genuine interest in helping those in need Able to work well with diverse populations Able to work alone and independently Good listening skills. Active listener Maintain and respect professional relationships Able to stay calm in stressful situations Self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable Must be able to commit to at least 1 hour per week for a minimum of 6-months
