Volunteers are needed to assist in sewing classes for refugee women adjusting to life in the U.S. The program includes a mix of women at various levels of sewing and crochet - some are new beginners and others have an extensive history of sewing. The sessions are meant to be fun and connect refugee women socially as well as to teach them a skill to make products they can sell or use in their family. The classes will be held on weekday mornings from 10am to 1pm at our Phoenix office at 2502 E University Drive.

Mothers of the children will be next door from the childcare room learning arts and crafts and meeting with other refugee women as part of our Women's Empowerment program. Help make this opportunity possible for moms to enjoy this experience and learn a new skill such as crochet or sewing, while their children are well cared for. Fingerprint cards will be required before you begin and volunteers will serve in pairs.

"IHELP" is the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program. We offer temporary shelter in rotating church spaces. The participants of the program are committed to case management and job searching or working during the day. They end the evenings at a rotating church site to have a meal and sleep. An overnight monitor volunteer is needed to offer an extra level of security, greet the guests, open bathrooms (if location locks them), and be on hand as a monitor if anything else is needed. Case manager/Emergency Services staff from LSS are on-call by phone if any issues arise. Start time of the shift in the evening is flexible but overnight monitors are welcome to come early to enjoy the meal with the guests. Typically, they must need to be there by 7pm if they aren't coming for the dinner meal. Shift complete by next morning at 7:30am after guests are picked up. IHELP is hosted by Lutheran Social Services in several cities - Mesa, Glendale, Peoria, Suprise, Avondale, and soon we'll be in Phoenix. Overnight monitors are helpful in ALL locations but are needed most currently in Avondale.

The Tucson Refugee Youth Mentorship Program (RYMP) is seeking a skilled event planner to help RYMP plan monthly, and bimonthly events for refugee-status youth and their volunteer mentors. We are asking that the volunteer plan a monthly "Cohort Graduation" for refugee-status mentees that have successfully graduated the program, as well as bimonthly "Mentor/Volunteer Appreciation" and "RYMP Ambassador" events to celebrate the time and energy given to the RYMP Program.
