"IHELP" is the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program. We offer temporary shelter in rotating church spaces. The participants of the program are committed to case management and job searching or working during the day and end the evenings at a rotating church site to have a meal and sleep. We are looking for an overnight monitor volunteer to offer an extra level of security, greet the guests, open bathrooms (if location locks them), and be on hand as a monitor if anything else is needed. Case manager/Emergency Services staff from LSS are on-call by phone if any issues arise. Start time of the shift in the evening is flexible but overnight monitors are welcome to come early to enjoy the meal with the guests. Typically, they must need to be there by 7pm if they aren't coming for the dinner meal. Shift complete by next morning at 7:30am after guests are picked up. IHELP is hosted by Lutheran Social Services in several cities - Mesa, Glendale, Peoria, Suprise, Avondale, and soon we'll be in Phoenix. Overnight monitors are helpful in ALL locations but are needed most currently in Avondale.
