About: Norwood Crossing is a non-profit senior living community located in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood. Our residential campus specializes in assisted living, skilled nursing, rehab, respite stays, and memory support (including Alzheimer's and dementia care). For over 100 years, we have been dedicated to enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults. We're looking for a volunteer for our award-winning Memory Support Unit to keep residents company by leading crafting activities. Time Commitment: Minimum once a week at the same time every week. Day of the week is flexible but mornings are preferred. Responsibilities and Expectations: * Lead craft activities for the Memory Support residents. * Partner with the Director of Memory Support to plan craft activities and communicate material needs. Qualifications: * Must be passionate about volunteering, friendly, patient, and considerate. * Must be able to work with residents who have Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia. * Be able to work independently and with staff members. * Strong communication skills. * Able to safely transport residents in their wheelchairs if needed (training provided). * Able to commit to being here on time. Advance notice of absences is most helpful for the residents and staff. * Interpersonal flexibility required and ability to take direction from staff. SATURDAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FROM 10 AM TO 1 PM (ASSOCIATE) AND 12 PM TO 3PM (CASHIER) THURSDAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FROM 12 PM TO 3 PM (CASHIER) AND 5 PM TO 7 PM (18+ only for this shift) FRIDAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FROM 10 AM TO 1 PM (ASSOCIATE) The nonprofit Norwood Life Society Thrift Shop has been a part of the fabric of the Norwood Park community for over 30 years. People know our lovely resale boutique as a place to get great bargains and strike up new friendships. Our volunteers help generate as much revenue as possible with proceeds from the sale of donations supporting the very best in senior services and enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults. There are a wide variety of tasks to keep volunteers busy throughout the day. Clothing is sorted from bags and boxes, tagged and priced and placed onto our sales floor. Household goods, books, artwork, collectibles and smaller furniture are also sorted, cleaned and made ready for sale. Helping customers find what they are looking for and working as a cashier round out the duties of a Thrift Shop Associate. Hours of Operation: Monday - Wednesday 10 am to 3 pm Thursday 10 am to 7 pm Friday - Saturday 10 am to 3 pm Sunday closed Commitment: Volunteers are expected to volunteer once a week for a minimum of 3 hours. If you are creative, help us design and maintain Shop windows and other displays Respond to routine customer inquiries Learn the cash register and handle the front counter Qualifications: Must be 16 years or older Must commit to a regularly scheduled shift Must be physically able to stand and lift donated goods Must have a positive, friendly demeanor Must support the goal of Norwood Life Society of providing the very best in senior services and enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults Special Training : Full training provided by Thrift Shop Volunteer Leadership Team, Shift Leads, Director of Volunteer Services, Thrift Shop Manager, and other volunteers as appropriate.

About and Impact: Norwood Crossing is a senior living community located in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood. We are seeking a volunteer to assist the Dietary Office with helping our residents to select their menu choices. Time Commitment: The time commitment is semi flexible but must be the same day/time each week -choose between 2 to 4 hours a week, Monday through Thursday, with shifts available in the morning (9:00 am - 11:45 am) or afternoon (12:30 pm - 5:00 pm). Responsibilities: * Assist residents in understanding the menu options and making meal selections based on their preferences and dietary needs. * Maintain a positive and respectful attitude, ensuring residents feel valued and cared for. * Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and take direction from staff. Qualifications: * Compassionate and friendly demeanor with a genuine interest in helping others. * Good communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with elderly individuals. * Must be comfortable working with the elderly and disabled. Patience and understanding when working with residents who may have cognitive or physical challenges. * Prior experience in a caregiving or volunteer role is a plus, but not required. Open Art Studio is led by Norwood Crossing’s Art therapist. Mondays from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm Research has shown that art has therapeutic effects as it helps reduce tension, anxiety, and stress. Job Functions: - Staff needs assistance from volunteers to transport residents via wheel chair or accompany them as they walk to the activity and back to their room. - Assist residents with their art project as well as the art therapist. Benefits of your commitment: * You will make a difference in the lives of our senior residents * Have fun and make friends with residents, staff, & volunteers * Must be passionate about volunteering, friendly and considerate. * Able to safely transport residents in their wheelchairs (training provided) * Able to commit to being here on time every week for the full two hours. Advance notice of absences is most helpful to the rest of the team of volunteers. * Interpersonal flexibility required working with other volunteers and you need to be able to take direction from lead volunteer and staff. Norwood Crossing Volunteer Covid Policy All volunteers must meet one of the following criteria: 1 - Fully vaccinated/up-to-date on all COVID-19 boosters Provide copy of vaccine card Sign covid19 vaccine education packet 2 - Vaccinated but not fully up-to-date on all boosters Provide copy of vaccine card Complete medical contraction paperwork Complete mandatory IPDH 90-minute training for all unvaccinated workers on Relias Sign covid19 vaccine education packet 3 - Medical or religious exemption Completed and approved exemption paperwork Complete mandatory IPDH 90-minute training for all unvaccinated workers on Relias Sign covid19 vaccine education packet Volunteers who have been on a floor where they has been a COVID outbreak will need to complete mandatory testing. Testing on site is recommended. At home tests or testing from a testing site are also permitted but we will need a copy of test results. If testing from home a picture of the test with your name and date will need to be provided. Vaccine cards, exemption or medical contraction paperwork, and all CMS training certificates need to be turned in to the Director of Volunteer Services before any volunteer begins their volunteer role at Norwood Crossing. Volunteers should not come in to volunteer if they are symptomatic.
