Money Management Volunteer

A few hours a month of your time could keep one of your neighbors from being evicted, becoming the victim of financial fraud, or losing their independence. As a volunteer bill payer, you would be matched with an individual who wants help organizing bills, creating a budget, and getting the monthly bills paid. You will also use your training and knowledge to steer vulnerable individuals away from scams and fraud. WestMass Eldercare's Money Management Program services the following communities - Holyoke, Chicopee, South Hadley, Ludlow, Granby, Belchertown and Ware. What we offer volunteers: The opportunity to utilize and build on current skills, and learn new ones The opportunity to help community members in a meaningful way A flexible schedule, often with hours outside of the typical workday Thorough training In service support through meetings, trainings, and resources Mileage Reimbursement

Nursing Home Ombudsman

An Ombudsman visits residents of area nursing homes every week to hear their concerns. The ombudsman helps to promote the belief that each person has the right to a quality life, and that this right should be protected. S/he works closely with the Program Director to receive and investigate complaints, in confidence, on behalf of residents, their families and other interested parties. Ombudsmen also provide information and referral to connect people with avaliable long term care and community resources. This is a federally sponsored program through the Older American's Act under the supervision of the State Ombudsman in Boston. Orientation and training by the State Office in the local area is provided. Ongoing training, supervision and support are provided by the Program Director.

WestMass ElderCare is an Aging Services Access Point and an Area Agency on Aging. WestMass ElderCare offers a diversity of programs and services to preserve independence and the family network. We are here to meet the individual needs of the elder at the different stges along the continuum of care, ranging from informational services to inhome support, to crisis prevention and nursing home advocacy.
