Become a Lion and serve your community all year. Olympia Host Lions Club welcomes new members - men and women - who are interested in helping our neighbors. We have been serving the Olympia area since 1935 with projects like vision screening in schools, our Low Vision Resource Center, support for Camp Leo for Children with Diabetes, the NW Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. Come help us recycle plastic film to keep it out of Puget Sound and the landfill. Lend a hand at our Sensory Garden at Port of Olympia. Flip a burger at Lakefair or deliver apples in the fall. Or bring us your service idea - we love new projects! (And our meetings each Tuesday feature informative speakers on topics of interest - come learn what is going on in our town!)

You can help give the gift of independence. Lend a hand at the Lions Low Vision Resource Center on Martin Way in Olympia. Volunteer once a month for a four hour shift on a Wednesday or Saturday - or more often if you choose. Training is provided. Choose what you like to do - we need help with these tasks. sort and record items into inventory. help repair equipment, check for batteries, team with correct power cords, etc do computer research to locate resources. update data bases on computer. learn how to use specific phone apps or devices to show clients. make phone calls to clients to see how they are doing with our equipment. just be second person at the Center so we never have one person there alone. Answer door if manager is in back or with client; answer phone if it happens to ring clean up - straighten brochures, tidy up shelves, clean coffee pot, vacuum, dust equipment. train to be a Site Manager so that I can oversee the operation of the center during one or more shifts each month. The Lions Low Vision Resource Center loans out magnifying equipment and other aids to individuals who are losing their sight. The Center is staffed entirely by volunteers and all services are free. Volunteers sort clean plastic film and package to ship to Trex for turning into Trex furniture. Work one or two hours - or until you get tired. On the spot training - this is easy to learn work and you'll enjoy seeing the bags of plastic film that won't be going to the landfill or littering our area. Good for individuals or small groups. Work at your own pace, come anytime during sorting hours. Safe location inside the Thurston County Food Bank warehouse.
