Job Title: Volunteer Board Member About Global Legacy Network (GLN), Inc.: Global Legacy Network (GLN), Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing academic, health, social, and supportive services to youth and young adults in under-served communities within the Triangle area in North Carolina, Africa, and the Caribbean. Job Description: The role of a Volunteer Board Member at Global Legacy Network, Inc is pivotal in guiding the strategic direction, governance, and sustainability of the organization. Board members play a critical role in overseeing the organization's mission, financial health, and overall impact on the communities we serve. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning sessions to help set organizational goals and priorities aligned with the mission and vision of Global Legacy Network, Inc. Governance: Provide oversight and governance by reviewing and approving organizational policies, budgets, and major decisions. Financial Management: Review financial reports, budgets, and audits to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Fundraising and Development: Actively participate in fundraising efforts by leveraging personal networks, making financial contributions, and assisting with donor cultivation and stewardship. Advocacy and Outreach: Serve as ambassadors for Global Legacy Network, Inc within the community, advocating for the organization's mission and programs, and expanding our network of supporters and partners. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges facing the organization and collaborate with staff and fellow board members to develop mitigation strategies. Evaluation and Impact Assessment: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives in achieving desired outcomes and making data-driven decisions to improve performance. Committee Participation: Serve on board committees (e.g., finance, fundraising, governance) as needed to address specific areas of focus and expertise. Qualifications: Commitment to the mission and values of Global Legacy Network, Inc, with a passion for empowering youth and connecting them to needed resources. Previous experience serving on a non-profit board or equivalent leadership experience in organizational governance. Strong leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with diverse stakeholders. Financial acumen and understanding of non-profit financial management, including budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the organization effectively in public forums and engage with donors and partners. Ability to commit time and energy to monthly board meetings, committee work, and other organizational activities, including attending regular board meetings (in person or virtually) and participating in special events and initiatives. Experience or expertise in areas such as education, health, community development, financial literacy, violence prevention or social services is desirable but not required. The grant writer will write coherent, organized, and compelling proposals. The candidate will apply their knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach income goals. They will collaborate with team members in the organization to assist with other fundraising projects and develop relationships with key stakeholders. A successful candidate will write well, have proficient knowledge of fundraising methods, and be committed to the mission of Global Legacy Network, Inc. Preferred applicants are deadline-driven team players with outstanding multitasking abilities. Grant Writer Responsibilities: Developing relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders. Displaying adherence to the organization’s mission. Maintaining proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs. Identifying grant funding opportunities. Writing, submitting, and managing grant proposals. Furnishing prospective funders with supporting documents. Collaborating with Executive Director to send funders newsletters. Collaborating with the Executive Director and Fundraiser to compile an annual report. Maintaining consistent and up to date electronic and hard copy records. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, English, communications, or related field. Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing and management in a non-profit setting. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Experience researching and identifying funding sources. Knowledge of grant application and proposal writing best practices. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with program staff and funders. Strong project management and organizational skills. Passion for youth advocacy and empowerment issues.

In this role, you will organize fundraising events, identify and reach out to potential donors, and build marketing campaigns that increase public awareness about Global Legacy Network programs and community initiatives. This is primarily a relationship management position, as we hope to encourage our donors to renew their support. You will also assist with grant proposals, requesting local businesses, foundations and corporations to support our organization. Our ideal candidate has several years of fundraising experience and is passionate about our mission of empowering and uplifting our youth.
