Position Duties and Responsibilities: Welcome guests to the Museum, field questions, and facilitate dialogue on the topics covered at Columbia River Maritime Museum. Lead guided tours through the Museum galleries with enthusiasm and fascinating tales. Encourage hands-on, inquiry-based learning for visitors of all ages, including lifelong learners visiting the Museum as part of a tour. Characteristics and Experiences: This is a public-facing job working with visitors. Docents must be comfortable and eager to speak with large groups from a variety of backgrounds every day. Must have a working knowledge of the Museum’s galleries and be able to interpret them for the public. Must successfully complete the Docent Training Program, which is required prior to acceptance into the docent corps. Ability and willingness to learn the tour materials put forth during training Enthusiasm and willingness to learn new material and self-educate Ability to adapt tour materials to individual audiences

Position Duties and Responsibilities: Provides administrative support to the Museum staff and visitors. Assist staff members with copying, faxing, filing, shredding, and conducting research projects as requested. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of donor, staff and organization information. Greets visitors to the office area. Answers the main phone line, transferring calls and/ or taking messages. Assists Membership and Marketing with mailings. Provides support with general clerical duties or special projects as assigned. Characteristics and Experiences: Must be detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a quiet office setting with confidential information. Must have basic computer skills and the ability to conduct online research. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. General knowledge of databases and software, or the ability to learn. Must have working knowledge of the general Museum operations and department roles.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in the operations of the Museum Store. Assist with suggestions and sell merchandise to guests. Keep merchandise stocked in and on the display shelves in the Museum store. Maintain the cleanliness and overall organization of the store. Operate the cash register with accuracy and timeliness. Serve as a greeter for special events such as cruise ships and receptions and also provide assistance to Visitor Services, as requested. Answer general questions about the Museum, history of Astoria and surrounding areas and events. Characteristics and Experiences: Must have excellent customer service skills. Must be detail oriented and organized. Must be able to work as part of a team.

Position Duties and Responsibilities: Welcome guests to the Lightship and share facts and stories about the ship. Ensure that visitors have museum boarding passes and treat the Lightship as an Encourage hands-on, inquiry-based learning for visitors of all ages, including lifelong learners visiting the Lightship as part of a tour. Direct visitors to various parts of the ship, encouraging exploration while using all safety precautions. Inform visitors of safety precautions and act as the primarily person to report injuries and accidents on the ship to the Museum staff. Docents are expected to have a working knowledge of the Lightship and be able to share the information with the public. Characteristics and Experiences: This is a public-facing job working with visitors. Docents must be comfortable and eager to speak with visitors from a variety of backgrounds every day.
